Gino Versteeg, who grew up in Veenendaal, went missing about 20 years ago. He is now 58 years old. The last that his loved ones and the police know about his possible whereabouts is that Gino lived in the Ardennes in 2004. After that, he is believed to have lived in Ireland.

Gino Versteeg grew up with his brother in a working-class neighbourhood in Veenendaal-Zuid. His brother describes him as a journeyman chef. ‘He cooked for everyone. Then he was asked, and then he could go abroad again,’ Gino's brother told Opsporing Verzocht. Turkey, South Africa, Belgium, Luxembourg, Ireland, he went everywhere and sometimes stayed only for short periods in the Netherlands.

Gino's brother noticed something was wrong when he stopped calling. ‘He was actually always in touch with my mother. On special days, birthdays, you name it. He was always calling.’ Around 2006, that stopped.

The police would like to get in touch with people who have information about Gino's whereabouts. Or who have seen him in recent years.

Description:
Hair colour: (dark) blonde
Eye colour: blue
Height: 175 - 180 cm

the title and the article says he went missing around 2005 but I think there's an error in your post that says "He was always calling.’ Around 2006, that stopped."

Some sources like Opsporing Verzocht (official TV show by Dutch police) and Gelderlander newspaper say 2005, but Politie Nederland says 2006. So not very sure, but it must be around these years.

I think since his last residence was in the Ardennes in 2004 and the fact that he possibly went to Ireland afterward (although the family does not know for sure), plays a role in the confusion in those years.

Gino Versteeg maintained faithful contact with his mother. Wherever he was and regardless of what was going on in his life, he called her regularly. That changed around 2005. When his family went in search of Gino because his mother's health was deteriorating, there was no trace of him. Gino's mother was very sad about that until her death in 2011.

There are several scenarios about Gino's life that the detective department takes into account. There may have been personal problems in the period surrounding his disappearance

It’s a bit unclear where his last known country/place was: the televisionprogramme ‘Opsporing verzocht’ mentions him, during their show, latest known living in Ireland 2005.
But the website of that same: “Opsporing verzocht” mentions “The ardennes” as last known place.
