In a interview, Daisy Colon told AMW the harrowing details of the day her 5-year-old son disappeared on Aug. 15, 2008.
"I recently allowed Ernesto [Gonzalez] to see his son, again, because he acted like he wanted to be a part of his life," Daisy said.
Daisy dropped Giovanni off for a weekend visit with his father.
When Daisy didn't hear from her Giovanni after repeated calls to Ernesto Gonzalez's home, she came to pick her son up on Sunday.
That's when Daisy says she was surprised to get no answer at the front door. Worried and concerned for her child’s safety, Colon called the police.
Authorities discovered a mop that had been stained with blood and drenched with bleach. They say they also found a cleaning aid that could be used to remove remnants of blood.
Ernesto was arrested and is currently serving time for child endangerment, although, he still proclaims his innocence.
Authorities have not yet ruled Giovanni's disappearance a homicide and still consider that he may be alive and well. His family also holds out hope that they will find Giovanni soon. The FBI has joined in the search, and is actively passing out flyers near Ernesto's home.
