I can't imagine this will turn out to be Giovanni because he was 5'11" and 140, not to mention the fact that there is an awful lot of national forest land between the gulf coast of FL and South Carolina to get of a body without having to drive that far. Seems unlikely to me, although time will tell.

Her son’s paternal grandfather left Bridgette a voicemail in which he claimed that Giovanni got into a fight with his cousins and was left on the roadside in Bradenton, Manatee County.

As per People Magazine, Bridgette reached the location using a GPS which tracked her son’s phone’s location, and discovered his bag and phone lying there. She said:
"When I got to where it [his phone] was, his bag had been left on the side of the road, it was his phone and his backpack, and he wouldn't have left that. My son eats, sleeps, showers, breathes his phone.”
According to the mother, her son’s cousin informed her that they smoked marijuana with Giovanni after picking him up, but after feeling panicked, Giovanni’s pulled out a knife and ran away from them, noted People Magazine

“He was picked up by three cousins that came from Mims,” Croft said. “He wanted to kind of get to know that side of the family that he does not know. They had only communicated via text messages and FaceTime calls. They came down here to Englewood, picked him up, and 21 minutes after he left the home, he sent his mom a text message that said ‘Mom help me.'”

Those cousins told Charlotte County deputies that as they were heading north on Interstate 75, Giovanni began acting erratically before getting out of the car and walking away. They said this happened in the area near State Road 70 in Manatee County

i think his cousins killed him
Oh my goodness I hope that isn't the case. 😢
The story from the cousins makes no sense at all.
He'd just met them, how is he getting into an argument or suddenly demanding to be let out.
Even if they smoked some weed.

Wouldn't they at least pull into an open gas station/convenience store and tell him to call an Uber or at least call him mom ?
I think they grabbed his phone off him, after those texts.
Just so angry now at the irresponsible behavior.
I think Giovanni is close to his mom & family and it sounds like he would have contacted them by now unless he's being held somewhere and tbh it's doubtful so ....
Hoping for better news like, today !!
Imo.

Wait, I thought that it was reported that a truck driver found his backpack and phone on the side of the road?
Also, I can't see Gio having a bad reaction to smoking weed within twenty minutes of his being picked up, unless it was laced with something.
I'm thinking that these guys aren't even his relatives at this point.
IMO.

Bbm.
That's what I'd read, too.

Here's what this article says :

His family said he was "abandoned on the side of the road in Bradenton, Florida," with his backpack and phone discovered in the area
by a truck driver the same day he disappeared.

Red emphasis mine.

However, his mom, who was staying with him on the Florida trip, missed the calls as she slept — and woke at 6:20 a.m. to the eerie messages from her son,
along with a missed call from one of the cousins who’d picked up Giovanni, she said.

Rbm.
First time I've heard a call came in from one of the 'cousins', unless I've missed it ?
Imo.

Seems like both stories (Mom found bag and phone/trucker phone bag and phone) have been published . This WRAL article ('Mom, help': Last text from Fuquay-Varina teen before vanishing in Florida has family concerned) also says ‘Desiree [Desiree Pelletier - Giovanni’s aunt] said Giovanni’s mother had his location on her phone, which was last pinged near a highway in Manatee county Fl. Desiree said a truck driver picked up the bag after seeing it on the side of the road and it was turned over to police.’

Another interesting portion of the WRAL article, BBM.

‘However, Desiree Pelletier said the family has concerns about the cousins’ involvement.

“How on earth are we supposed to be okay with these three boys saying this is what happened and then they change it,” she said. “Then someone lies about their name as well? How are we supposed to be okay and not go for the possibility of something happened to him?”’

Exactly - I've found two different last names for these "cousins" while searching. A couple of them also have records.
I hope like hell that Gio is alive and just lost, but it's been so long, and the circumstances are beyond sketchy. An eighteen year-old would have found a way to reach out to his mother by now.
IMO.

Hopefully LE will be able to break down this group of ‘cousins’ and their suspicious story. Nothing about it makes sense. The fact that at least two were using fake names…all suspicious. I hope that LE can break the weakest link. The story has already changed several times. Someone mentioned up thread that the cousins needed to turn in the knife that was supposedly taken away from Gio for testing. I personally wouldn’t trust any knife these guys turned in. The real knife, if there WAS a knife, is long gone. Things went bad way too quick for this to be some sort of ‘he just snapped’ thing. He was fine when he left and 20 minutes later he was supposedly out of it and was kicked out of the vehicle. Why didn’t they turn around and take him back to where he was staying?

All MOO and speculation.

Hi guys! I lurk yes, post occasionally! I would like to point out some facts on this. The weather where all of this has happened . Everyday in the areas where it is being discussed it has stormed . There is water sitting in drains, ditches, cow pastures are just to name a few. It would be interesting to see just WA
Hat the rain situation was like where His back pack and cell pho e were found. Were they wet ? Were they dry? There would be no tire tracks, footprints ECT due to the rain.

I do not believe important on this one, they did not take I - 4 as a route down. This is because on I - 4 it is bumper to bumper on a Friday night between Hwy 27 onto I - 4 almost into Day to a with Kissimmee and Orlando stretch moving at a very slow rate. Any Floridian would not take that route if they were going for time. I - 4 is probably one of worst interstates in the entire US. These people took either 441 down to Hwy 60 or Hwy 98 crossed over t
Hwy 27 at some point and picked up either Hwy 66 of Hwy 64 to or 70 . just my opinion.

Would also like to add there are cameras in businesses and traffic cameras in most of the crossover places. This entire scenario is sketchy as can be! My heart and prayers go out to the family.

When I travel over to see my Aunt & Uncle in Sebastian, FL, which is next to Mims, FL, I take the backroads you described.

There have been parts of central FL that have had random storms over the past 2 weeks. Here in Sarasota we’ve been dry for 2-3 weeks, until today.

Nobody would take I-4 E because as you’ve stated, it is a nightmare 24/7.

Agreed. Giovanni’s weight is reported to be 140 lbs (50 pounds off) and the distance is over 350 miles away, a trip most people with any sort of history and/or adversion to encounters with law enforcement are going to embark on with evidence of a crime perhaps in the vehicle with them.

There are already posts up on social media from family of a young man who went missing in this area in SC a while back that has a very strong resemblance to the missing man found. Unverified rumor at this point since it's FB, but hoping for that family's sake they get confirmation or closure.

I don't have any thoughts of this being Giovanni at all.

I live in central Florida. I take the kids and grandkids to sheets beach and Anna Maria all the time.

Sad update, no ID yet but not looking good.

UPDATE: MCSO said a male body was located in a pond alongside the interstate in the area where Giovanni Pelletier was last seen.

Authorities have yet to identify the body. The investigation is ongoing.
