While t here are lights on the highway and such, it gets dark in those areas also. And i'm guessing the sides of that pond were VERY slippery and he slipped and fell into the water... could have hit his head or just got wrapped up in weeds/plants muck. Cousins shouldn't have left and lied, but its not murder. He was an adult, chose to smoke, likely was delusional at that point, and panic set in. Hopefully tox screen tells more.

I don't know what will happen legally, if anything, but leaving him on a highway and not caring how he would get back to where he was staying is so mean. They knew he was from out of town.

If he went crazy on them and they didn't want him in the car, at least call 911 without leaving your own name.

Not sure that would've made a difference in terms of what ultimately happened, except they could live the rest of their lives knowing they did the right thing.

I'm trying to see this from the perspective of the car owner / other occupants. They've never met this guy. He smokes some weed, has a bad reaction, and says he wants to get out of the car. They try to reason with him and say, you're okay, it'll be fine.
But he says he's got a knife, he's a demon, he's going to wreck the car. He's going crazy and he's scaring them.

So they pull over to the side, he jumps out, runs across the highway, jumps the barrier and disappears. They wait for a little while to see if he comes back for his backpack/phone, but he doesn't. So they leave them by the side of the road in case he comes back for them. They call his mum, call his grandpa to tell them what happened. They probably figure he'll make his own way home once he calms down.

Giovani is 18 years old, he's an adult. They don't know him. He's threatened them and left. They did the right thing by calling his mum and grandpa to let them know, but they can't have possibly predicted that Giovani would sprint down an embankment into a in a knee deep pond and die there.
These guys have to live with all the "What ifs". What if we'd talked him down. What if we'd let him out somewhere else. What if we'd called 911. What if we'd chased after him etc.
I feel bad for them, but I don't blame them.

What happened was a tragedy, but it's not their fault.

I don't blame them, either. But I'm assuming they feel some guilt. If they had called 911 to alert police a man was running on the highway, they would know they did what the could and that is a comforting feeling, even if the call wouldn't have saved him.

But, I do not blame them for his death or even for getting him out of the car.

It was tragic and unfortunate, and my heart breaks for his mom.

Moo.. truth is cops would of drove by area, did not see anyone in distress, and that would be that. It is just a sad accidental death. Really hope it does not tear the family apart. It really was not the cousins fault..they did not know him...moo

I realize that, but it might alleviate their own feelings to know they did the right thing.

I've said that enough. Sorry about the situation.

Seems like a steep decline. I do not think he saw it. I think he was running, fell in, panicked.

Yes and if he was inebriated or high on something, then he couldn't save himself.

Does everyone agree that IF that video from Lowes that surfaced is truly him, that this case is going to be at worst aggravated criminal neglect and not murder?

I smoke now... but only what is grown by a friend and only 1 to 3 puffs then I am done.

The strains he gives me are "indica" which is much more calming. I only smoke 2 to 3 times a week. it is very relaxing these strains.
Indica is my favorite too. It's legal here. I've had psychedelic experiences with state approved gummies, as have my brother and mother. It's a more complex drug than people seem to believe. I can see someone easily acting as the people in the car said Giovanni acted. Poor guy. I feel so sorry for his Mom.

From looking at the video and how the sheriff described it it looked like Giovanni was doing a fast run(aka like someone on a too steep hill) and he lost control and fell. So sad. This was posted in my local FB group I live not far from the county where this happened, the Mom was quoted has posted she found him:(

Knowing what we know now, and seeing the videos, I’m wondering how quickly after Gio was reported missing, did LE actually review the videos. I realize it’s a skill and it takes time. But if it was within days, it seems that LE would have physically toured the retention pond quickly.

It makes me think once MSCO figured out bad they looked, along with comments from the court of public opinion, at that point, they stepped up their investigation. It wouldn’t have saved Gio, but perhaps it would have spared his family of unnecessary trauma. i.e., finding the body with their own resources.

I’m very saddened that the car occupants did not have the wherewithal to go to the next exit, turn around and come back southbound. They could have at least drove around the immediate area to see if he was walking, while speaking to 911. I truly believe they were only thinking of their own drug offenses coming to light.

I agree this doesn’t warrant murder charges. But the neglect is next level. Sigh.

that could have just been a plea for someone to come pick him up. Did phone still have battery? Or was he too out of it to call his mom? Instead of texting? That we will never know, i don't think. MOO

But until they knew where he was let off, They would have to put out requests for businesses to review footage. He could have gone so many different ways from there. North, South, East, West. Picked up by another car, In Mims, Heading back to Englewood. And he was an adult... If it wasn't for the 'help' text, he could have just been off doing whatever he wanted to do as an 18 year old and not contacting Mom. 3 different counties were involved.... Where do you pinpoint your search immediately? I think they started at Mims.... MOOO

It sounds like the cousins told LE what happened, he got out of the vehicle & ran across I-75. SCSO would have contacted MCSO to go search. They wouldn’t have seen Gio at night of course. But at daylight there might have been grass disturbed along the embankment.

Yes Gio could have walked wherever, but the clues didn’t suggest that. LE & family were given facts. Not that I believed them initially either but I wasn’t the one investigating.

We can only assume. If the cousins admit they gave him laced weed, or state that Gio had his own weed, then that is the likely explanation as to why, 21 minutes from home, he reached out.

It’s a good 45 minutes to an hour from Englewood to SR70, where Gio exited the car. What was said, and how Gio acted, while traveling can only be answered by the cousins. And they’ve made their statement and if I remember correctly, they are cooperating with LE.

Are they ever?
Well, mine was. Did my DNA at 57 and found a beautiful family, although my father was deceased by that point.

I wish it had been the same for Gio.
