Google Codes to Help Find Missing Kids
» Back in August of 2006, along with other tech industry companies, Google joined the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children's (NCMEC) Technology Coalition Against Child Pornography. Working together, we developed solutions that hinder predators' ability to use the Internet to exploit children or traffic in child pornography.
In our ongoing partnership, we leveraged our ability to manage and organize immense amounts of information by creating innovative software tools for NCMEC. These tools help the center track down child predators through video and image search. Armed with this robust software, analysts are able to more quickly and easily search NCMEC's large information systems to sort and identify files that contain images of child pornography.
We hope the tools we've built for NCMEC will help its analysts make the important, time-sensitive work of investigating child predators faster and more efficient. Please read the official Google Blog post for more information.

The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) does good work. Since its founding some 24 years ago, it has found more than 124,500 children based on tips received from the public. Google teamed up with NCMEC back in 2006 to help prevent predators from being able to search for and contact children via the Internet.
Some at Google decided that prevention just wasn't good enough, and decided to take a more proactive role in helping search for children who are missing.
