Great white jumps on to research boat

t1larg.shark.jpg

The 1,100-pound great white shark sits in the stern of a South African research boat.

...“Next thing I know I hear a splash, and see a white shark breach out of the water from the side of the boat hovering, literally, over the crewmember who was chumming on the boat's port side,” field specialist Dorien Schroder wrote on the blog. He pulled the crewmember to safety while others jumped out of the way of the 1,100-pound shark.

Schroder said the shark landed with only half of its body on the boat, and the crew hoped it would slide off. This shark, however, wanted to hang around.

The shark thrashed about and became stuck in a 5-by-6.5-foot area on the stern of the boat, cutting the vessel's fuel lines in the process....

They are fascinating creatures, but scare the shiz out of me to the point of keeping me OUT of the ocean. I love reading about them, and especially watching nature shows about them. LoL But still... they freak me OUT. Went snuba'ing, one time, in Hawaii and all I could think was: shark, shark, shark, great white shark. Now, if they would all take the Bruce initiative and apply it to humans, I might, just might, get in the ocean more often. :)

All wanna do is walk around my apartment saying, "no no no no no no." assuring my self a shark cannot get me on the third floor. Plus I'm landlocked. That helps a little. Large, carnivorous water creatures....gehhhhh. Anyone got an image of that shark that would terroze Bug Bunny by walking on his tail fins on land? :(

Hey cool stuff and if iam seeing or reading right they did let it go. no chance they were doing research on great whites lol now that would be too easy . I can see how this happen if you have ever seen a great white hunt they see the prey on the top of the water and will from sometimes over a 100 feet deep swim straight up and grap what is usualy a seal and the energy and force from swiming upwords so fast propels them sometimes up to twice thier body lengths out of the water .

:floorlaugh: what's most frightening for me is that I REMEMBER the days when SNL was actually funny!

*Sigh* Me too!

I can't look at that photo without feeling grateful for my own job...at least a thousand-pound shark isn't going to come leaping into my office!

Ok, I was sad today that a buyer came to look at our boat that we are selling. I didn't want to sell it. After this...I'm happy to sell it.

LOL
