CBS Evening News on Twitter

Not much new here, other than the comment from the coroner to CBS News that "It wasn't a quick death."

:(
Either not a quick death because she struggled and resisted and put up a great fight? Or because torture was involved, as previously speculated? Or both.

Either would have made noise. She would have screamed. If the knife wounds are defensive wounds, she would have screamed. Otherwise it leads me to believe she was subdued quickly, mouth taped perhaps?

I feel intrusive even typing these things. Whatever and however, so horrible for this poor woman.

No, that's the ventilation hole she was dropped through into the cave! The main entrance is the one shown above, the one blocked by branches.

Yes, that was my point.

As you posted in a link earlier, CityDancer, here is a video showing the ventilation hole/"hatch".

Δολοφονία βιολόγου στην Κρήτη: Το κίνητρο, οι προσαγωγές και η… θεία δίκη

I'm still trying to determine the exact location of the bunker (based on the rough road leading to it), and, by extension, the "hatch", which is apparently above a spot 60m (200 feet) into the bunker.

Some people have posted that she missed lunch and would have eaten something after 3PM. Conferences have set meals, and between events there are drinks and snacks. Some people said that there are only drinks between conference talks, but quite often there is cheese, crackers, muffins, fruits and snacks.

If her last meal was 2 hours before death, and she was playing the piano at 3PM, then it seems that her last meal was after 3PM and not 12 noon (as with conferences), unless meal and snack have the same meaning. Maybe she had a snack during the 2:15 break. Does that she was dead by 5:30PM? In the cave by 8:40PM, and everything on schedule for the murderer at 9PM?

Do we know who saw her playing the piano at 3 PM? Was that on CCTV? Did multiple people see her playing piano or only one person?

I found it. The bridge shown on this video,
, right next to the dirt road leading to the bunker, is this one: Google Maps

I'm only explaining that there are two entrances to the cave, a ventilation hole as well as a main entrance. The photos from the Battlefiend Archaeology site are showing the main entrance.

I agree. She goes to Crete to attend a conference as she has done for the pst 5 years. She goes for at least one run that we know of, as per her normal routine. She ends up murdered. Written in some cruel stars.

An Agatha Christie mystery indeed - what is needed is a Hercule Poirot or a Miss Marple. Case solved.

Not really. She did go to Crete, Greece to attend a conference, and was murdered after 2 days running trails. Was it Day 3 she vanished without her phone, or was that Day 2? It was July 2. Didn't she shared photos of the Christian Orthodox location at Crete on Day 2?

Upthread, there's info that she ran the trails for 30 minutes for the two days prior to her abduction and murder between 3 and 5 pm (or later) July 2.

Agatha Christie would have narrowed down which evidence will be examined first.

Yes, I've 'wandered' google street view to try to find the location of the road they show in the videos. I haven't nailed it down yet. It is right by an underpass, a T-intersection going to the right (facing the underpass).

And, once I figure that out, the hatch will be located well away from that, and that's what I want to find.

According to the conference schedule, lunch/afternoon break started at 1pm and ended at 4:30. She could have been eating lunch between 1pm and 2pm. If she really skipped lunch altogether, did she have other plans involving a meal for the afternoon?

Reports on the time of death (that I've seen) aren't consistent. Some quote time after the last meal and others time after leaving the conference venue.

I've been trying to figure that out. The caves are described as being in Xamoudochori. This town is south of the highway (which is where you find the underpasses). The rough road should go to the east if it is south of the highway or to the west if it is north of the highway. I haven't been able to pin down the road to the bunker, but here is a map showing the village and you will see the highway.

Thank you! It seems the bunker is like a labyrinth.

Underpass, South of the highway?
Nearest town on both sides

Has anyone read anything further about the burlap that apparently covered the body? I'm trying to figure out if this is a translation error as we now seem to be reading about pallets.

MSM Source: Local media outlet, The Greek Reporter, said her body was covered in burlap. Original source: Suzanne Eaton: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know | Heavy.com

This article from CBS provides the following info on TOD: "Local authorities say that there are currently no suspects, but they believe Eaton was strangled shortly after she went missing on July 2".

Not really. They rarely ever do them, from what I can recall they only reveal more information after the case has been solved.

Isn't that after an arrest? Prior to arrest, all relevant information is released. After arrest, integrity of the investigation and innocent until proven guilty matter. Prior to trial, all information is withheld. After a guilty verdict, full names are disclosed.

In the meantime, there is no arrest, all details matter, and names are open game - IMHO.

The conference opened on the evening of June 30, when they had registration and a dinner. She would have likely checked in that day.

Conference opened on June 30 with afternoon registration and dinner or event. She was plenary speaker, the invited guest - all expenses paid. She took photos with her phone while running the day before she disappeared, didn't she, was it 2 days or just 1?

Is it true that she went running on the two days prior to her disappearance on July 2.
There's something wrong with this ear cutting thing.

This article refers to Dr. Eaton taking a 'daily' run: Oakland native found dead during scientific conference in Greece

This article: "Authorities believe Eaton left her room to go for her daily run somewhere between 3-5 p.m. Her passport, phone and wallet were left in the room. The only item missing was her running shoes". Source: Suzanne Eaton: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know | Heavy.com

Two or 3 of the pics are exactly identical to pics from the crime scence, ie entrance etc. Sorry it's too late in the night here for me to search but you can find them easily. Kolymbari / Maleme / Xamoudochori / Pirgos Psilonerou all these are super close to each other, I believe. They said at one site that the cave she was found in is very close to the highway PEO Kissamou-Chanion so it cant be very far from the coastline.

I can't get a fix
