Yep thats certainly strawberry blonde.. i dont know if the sun would bleach it that light or... in the uk we have a product called "sun in' u spray it on and go into the sun and it bleaches ur hair.. would result in tgis little girls exact hair colour..
So strawberry blonde and green eyes (or blue )
That narrows it down a hell of alot..

It was reported earlier today on Sky tv that there also are 9 other children the greek police believe might not have been biologically connected to this community

"Appeal: Hundreds of parents from across Europe have called, believing Maria could be their missing daughter."
That gives me hope that her parents will be found.

How utterly sad that so many parents are missing their children :( I hope at least this one will be reunited with her real family, and that many others will follow.

She's also got a unique hairline with a few cowlicks that would help in identifying her since those things remain constant as you age.

She looks Norwegian

As soon as this news broke and I saw the photo of 'Maria' I thought she looks like Anders Breivek

You're right, she does look just like him.

IMO by her looks I would guess that she is maybe from former Yugoslavia - Croatia, BiH, Serbia or Macedonia.

Or she could be from a russian federation.

Or Swedish.
A lot of possibilities.

No. She is not Swedish or Albanian decedent. OR other Baltic.
She is Norwegian. Probably missing from a part of Norway 3 years ago or so. When she was year or two old. Maybe Olsen Norway. probably taken from a stroller.

Must be nice to be so sure of child's origin simply based on child's photo.

Man. My family is Spanish Gypsy and my dad spent a decade lecturing at places like UCLA and I published research, to dispell certain stereo-types about Gypsies. That they kidnap children is one that has existed for a couple hundred years. Gypsies tend to have too many kids to feed. No need to kidnap any.

Then this! Way to substantiate a horrid myth/stereotype, Roma! Gosh how infuriating and disappointing.

Btw, looks like they had dyed the child's hair brown at some point. So she has probably only been with them for a year as it was still brown at the ends.

She could be from any European country, I've seen kids with that colouring in my own neighbourhood and every country on the continent would have a certain amount of blonde. blue eyed people in its population - even countries like Italy which you wouldn't really associate with blonde hair.

Most likely a country which has a land border with Greece though. The Roma don't really tend to jet around the place, they normally travel by road.

I agree. I couldn't quite believe this story when I saw it. I just heard the tail end of something on BBC radio that seemed to be saying the couple's lawyer says they are heartbroken at having their adopted daughter taken away.

I am very puzzled about the lack of info about the other children, who obviously cannot all be the Mother's. Why no publicity for them? I hope it's not just because they're dark haired, so police are content they 'probably' belong in the Roma community somewhere and are not bothering to search for the biological parents.

I think with the other kids they're still waiting for DNA results to sort out who is who. Presumably we'll hear more about those when LE knows more.

I agree. I believe DNA results haven't come back on the other ones.

it gets worse

from zwiebel's link:

"Subsequent checks revealed that the woman purporting to be girl's mother has two Greek ID cards listing different personal information. According to one of the identities, she is registered in Larisa and is the mother of five girls and one boy. In the other, she is mother of four girls and registered in Trikala.

Three of these children are listed as being born in a five-month period in 1993 and another three in a three-and-a-half month period in 1994-95."

ummm...

Some Roma send their kids, in exchange for money, or repayment of debt, to live with other families or relations or traffickers who make the kids beg and steal all day. Very Dickensenian.

She does look Dutch, doesn't she? Unfortunately there could be another explanation for this too. There's a lot of UN peacekeeping troops in Kosovo and Bosnia with a Dutch contingent. Some of the human trafficking in the Balkans is to supply prostitutes to the peacekeepers. If the trafficked women get pregnant and their babies get taken away from them, there would be no missing child reported. Then it's next to impossible to find the mother/parents except through some DNA database they might possibly be registered in.

I really doubt she is Dutch. Doesn't look so to me (my mom is from Holland, dad from Spain) and people there are pretty prosperous. They don't tend to run around the world with kids in tow, doing drugs and trafficking themselves. And if a dutch kid had been kidnapped, we would know. This child looks Eastern European to me. IMO, the only way she would have ended up with this bunch is via the drug trade, prostitution, connected to some "Natasha" as they call the hordes of Russian and Ukranian girls trafficked to Western Europe.

I don't know much about human trafficking in Greece (I need to educate myself on that one) but IF she's the product of a victims pregnancy why would she be given to the Roma's? Why do Roma's have so many children, they are so poor. Wouldn't the want less mouths to feed and care for?

I apologize if that's insensitive or not "PC" but I genuinely can't think of why Roma's would take in, kidnap or purchase children.

Yup.

Well this little girl was used to beg/panhandle. More kids = more funds coming in, maybe. Especially if said child is blonde/fair and attention getting. Just a thought I very well could be wrong.

Yes. But they have no need to kidnap any as there are always tons of spares in their own community. This is why I think this child was acquired via the drug and sex trafficking involving Eastern European prostitutes.

ETA: I do not mean that the child was trafficked for sex purposes to Roma, or stolen from a trafficking victim Highly unlikely. I think she might have been abandoned. Or traded for drugs, by a prostitute.

Very cool ! Actually was wondering how some of these headlines were making some people feel and worried about the use of the term "Gypsy" in the news items.
Although I have been taught that "Roma' was a more respectful title, in some documentaries that I have watched concerning traveling people, they said that they prefer to be called Gypsy.
Everyone from everywhere has some title assigned to them, positive and negative- yes some associate Roma with child theft , but they are also known to many as great musicians and singers!
Good people, bad people of all stripes- it just depends on which ever group happens to be in the "hot seat" at the right/wrong time,to be demonized imo.
