When it comes to the safety of children, I'm okay with offending someone.

I'm a Hispanic woman with a son who has almost white hair and blue eyes. I'm not kidding, when he was born my doc said "It's a....blonde?" All he got from me are my big lips and feet. People ask if he's mine all the time. I don't care, I think we contrast beautifully.

One family was found to have a child that isn't legally theirs, and now everyone who has a child that looks differently should be stopped and questioned? This is like the whole giving up privacy for safety debate. Anyway, from what I've seen, most people who abduct kids abduct from the same race, and usually, the child isn't allowed out in public.

Too bad that guy who kidnapped the Dugan girl was never asked to provide documentation for her since he took her with him to visit the probation officer.. To me that would have been smart.

I read an article that stated she was taken to the doctor because of eye problems. Was it ever stated what was wrong with her eyes or is it something the abductors lied about? TIA

Wow...people should mind their own business. I'm glad it doesn't bother you but personally I think going up to a complete stranger and asking if the child they are with is theirs is really offensive. What does the person think? That the child was abducted, and then this person will rescue the child? That the abductor is going to go running for an exit, with people blocking the doors? Also, I would have to think that for an adopted child, having people constantly coming up to their parents asking if he/she is really theirs would take a toll.

I guess I have a different perspective because we have a child who is at risk for abduction. IMO, the inconvenience of being asked for documentation is worth making sure children are protected.

What is a "child who is at risk for abduction"? Aren't they all?

In that case there would have been a good reason to ask questions though - ie, she resembled a missing child. Same with Shawn Hornbeck, people noticed the resemblance to the missing posters but didn't really pursue it. In both those cases you wish people had been a bit nosier.

To start suspecting kidnappings because a child looks like a different race to an adult is a bit paranoid though.

I agree with you to a certain point. If a child is 3 years old and this child is 6 or 7 years old according to authorities why waste time and resources? She doesn't look like a 3 year old.

I think it's beyond incredibly rude. The few times a complete stranger has asked me I had an equally rude comeback or I simply laid them out and made them feel stupid they asked...oh and there is nothing more intrusive, insensitive and rude than asking in front of the child.

I haven't seen any more details. The eyes, and mention of her skin conditions, did make me think she could be albino. But other pics of people show them with much whiter skin and hair.

There are varying degrees of albinism it says here. There are always eye problems though.

DNA tests can reveal it - so I am guessing they would know by now if the child had this condition or not.

It just is impossible she is Lisa so I don't understand all the articles linking that. Also, I don't know why nearly all the news sources can't change their headlines to reflect her real age!

I think it's entirely possible her parents do not have access to the media or are not seeing/have not seen her pictures splashed all over for some reason ... in addition to the other possibilities people have raised.

It is rude and insensitive. When I was a young child I was out with my mom and my sister. My sister has red hair and green eyes and I have dark brown hair and dark brown eyes. We are two years apart. I look like my mom's family and my sister takes after our dad. Well this women who my mom knew slightly comes up to her looks at us and asks my mom which one is adopted! My Mom stares and then says it was the milkman and takes us and we walk away, lol. I had no idea at the time what she meant but years later we had a good laugh, lol.

There are rumblings on Facebook of people wanting her tested against Natalee Holloway's DNA (thinking Natalee was trafficked). I think poor Natalee hasn't been with us for a long time.

At the same time, I am so grateful for modern DNA tests in times such as these.

Only some forms can be diagnosed through DNA testing and this is all done clincally - if she comes from the Eastern Bloc it's doubtful the tests will have been performed.

If she has albinism, she most likely has type 1B - she'll have been much paler with white hair at birth.

Wonder if the Roma were telling the truth and somebody gave them the child?, That or she was a prostitutes daughter or something. I don't think she is american but hopefully they do find her family, If not I hope she goes to a good home.

While it's possible this child has been kidnapped, and of course authorities need to check with police and missing children organizations, I think it's every bit as likely that the child has no real parents to be returned to.

The confused and inconsistent stories told to the police might just be a result of their culture -- some groups of people simply don't trust the police, and have a habit of making up stories to obscure everything.

The child looks very Russian or Romanian to me. She could have been abandoned by a drug addicted or otherwise incompetent mother. There are tons of situations in which a child might end up with a non-related family, when people are living below the radar in this way.

All I'm saying is, kidnapping is not necessarily the conclusion one should jump to here, though it does need to be ruled out.
