Sorry I did not read the whole article but are the people who got stopped also Roma? Or are they just saying a Roma person gave them the baby?

"... allegedly tried to register the 21/2-month-old boy as their own, but raised suspicions because they lacked sufficient documentation."

bbm, Thank you. I could care less as well. I can not imagine leaving my town, city and on the outskirts was a settlement of people that look like they could care less about themselves. They look like they rolled out of a dumpster, sorry if that offends but that's what I see anyway. I hope this little girl is placed in a clean loving family that dos not require dancing to get a meal or new shoes. jmo

I strongly urge you to travel more.

Money or the lack of ... Doesn't define the quality of a family. Some of the most inspiring people in the world have come from poverty, including Presidents.

Not everyone has the money to travel to other countries

I still have seen zero evidence that this little girl was bought or bartered.

Someone explain to me how is it that this family isn't rolling in dough with all that illegally gotten welfare money. Where does it all go?

She was not acquired via legal means. That's the cold truth of it however one tries to spin the story.

A person need not leave their home country to find impoverished communities.

And the witch hunts begin !

Apparently, they are going into Roma compounds and removing children that appear white. This is not okay.

In that case they should be going to all cultures , all countries doing the same..
I vote for a child amnesty...

If a mother left her child in their care, it's not illegal.

"Police on the Aegean Sea island said the suspects allegedly tried to register the 21/2-month-old boy as their own, but raised suspicions because they lacked sufficient documentation.

Regional police chief Panagiotis Kordonouris told The Associated Press the 19-year-old woman, her 21-year-old male companion and his 51-year-old mother were arrested a Roma settlement outside the island capital of Mytilini.

Kordonouris told the AP they claimed an unknown Roma woman gave them the baby in Athens.

"They told us they didn't give her any money, and that they met by accident. She told her that she had five children; they said that they are unable to have their own and asked if she could give her one," Kordonouris said"

Just realized what bothered me about this news bit, why on earth would someone 19 years old and ( male companion 21) be so quick to decide that "they are unable to have their own " (children)? If it was for the mother, why at 51 ?

I can't believe this story they told, ridiculous . Yes I'm sure they asked the mother if they could have one of her children, and we are supposed to believe the mom says sure take this one I got lots more, (sarcastic).

I agree. I live near Indian reservations and have visited there frequently due to work. A lot of folks would look down their nose at these folks who live in what appears to be squaller and their children run barefoot and look dirty. But hey this is what our government gave to them and they (the govt) are seemingly ok with it. Do I think they are less than I am? NO WAY! Can they rise above it and get out of there? I sure hope for the little ones that they can. This is in our own country folks! Just the same as I can walk through the inner cities and see the homeless, the hungy, the uncleanly people who certainly I am no better than. We are truly Blessed, those of us who have homes, who have clean clothes and food and clean water. Not all of the world has these luxuries.

Is that the law in Greece? That one can just hand off a child to whoever they want? No custody/adoption hearings or paperwork? I seriously doubt it. It's certainly not the case here in the U.S.

And people talk about the caste system in India.... See it's alive and well in the minds of many in the free world.

And you would just hand over your child to one of those families? Or would you go through an adoption agency in the hope that your child is given the best odds possible?

I think this is becoming an issue of one side or the other, but I sincerely doubt taking either of those positions helps the Roma, people who are impoverished, or children who may be trafficked/abused/(insert whatever else might apply).

:modstop:

I mentioned this earlier and I guess some of you missed it.

Please discuss this CASE and not cultures. If you want to talk about the politics or cultures, etc, open a thread in the private forum.

This thread is about trying to identify a little girl.

I think that's about it. It's a financial scam. These are probably poorer Gypsy families' kids who "lent" them to pay of debts or send them to work, some Ic their earnings being sent back to their families.

I have a coworker (not Roma or Greek) whose family regularly transfers children from one to another for tax returns. This lady has an adult daughter in her 40s yet claims several dependents per year in exchange for paying their parents for the deduction she gets, since they are basically exempt from paying taxes due to low income.

They do not feel there is anything wrong with it. I disagree, but it is not my business.

I hear you. It is pretty damn insulting.

Did the police go into the Greece Roma camp because of Maria?
