Something doesn't fit in this story. For a healthy blonde, blue eyed baby they could've get much, much more than 1000 euro.

Not if she did have eye problems

And if u needed cash quick

Horrible.. but reality

An article I was going to repost, but didn't, said that perhaps it was a case of trafficking that was interrupted because of a crackdown at the time (2009). Not sure about the logistics of that. I also wondered if she couldn't be sold for more due to having a form of Albinism (not yet proven). Perhaps this coincides with the earlier reports about eye problems and the traffickers realized because of that they couldn't sell her for more? IDK, too many unknowns.

A black Brazilian family who have three albino children - it can happen.

I think that Maria is the Bulgarians child as it all seems to fit.

Albinism is a recessive gene - you need two copies. A set of parents both carrying the OCA gene will have a 1/4 chance of having an albino child.

The article said the woman had 8 - with Maria I think that'll make 9. The chances of having the 2 albino children plus albino Maria is spot on really.

Oh she didnt even have a name when they sold her

That amongst everything breaks my heart...

I don't think Maria is albino. There is no way she would be able to dance and beg on the streets, in the Greek sun, without getting very severe sunburn. And with the lack of cleanlines in the camp you could only imagine how bad it would be healing. The same with the kids of the bulgarian couple. The autorities should better check the DNA.

Hoping this link concerning Albinos and early links with India is appropriate here.
The pics are great, especially of the red haired E. Indian Albino, who is a ringer for one of "Maria's" possible sisters ,about a quarter down from top..
Very informative imo

The resemblance is striking between Maria and that family. Even the mother and Maria look similar, aside from the obvious difference in coloring. I think her family may be found.

These red scalps in the Pakistani family are from henna, I'm pretty sure. There is no such thing as red haired albino.

Here are some articles about this case that were published in the Columbus newspaper this week from the news wire services.

Gypsy couple jailed after girl found in camp

The case comes amid an increasingly acrimonious debate in Europe over how to integrate the Gypsies, a nomadic people who came to the continent centuries ago from India.

Baby is taken from 2nd Roma couple

Police said yesterday that the man and woman, both in their 20s, had been charged with child abduction after a 2-month-old baby was found living with them on the island of Lesvos.

At the request of Greek authorities who are trying to find out what the real identification of the girl dubbed the 'blonde angel' really is,

Interpol has issued a so-called “yellow notice” with a picture of the girl and has urged its 190 member countries to test her DNA profile against their own databases. So far, no match has been found.

The article also reported that in Ireland, police took a 7-year-old blond girl living with a Roma family into care on Monday after suspicions that she was not a blood relative.

I think the couple should have their daughter back. Yes they have no paperwork, but they took her in because her mom could not feed her, they raised her as their own, they love her as their own. Give her back to her family the only family she knows! JMO I don't need papers to love someone as my own.

These red scalps in the Pakistani family are from henna, I'm pretty sure. There is no such thing as red haired albino.

The pigment that causes red hair is entirely different from the pigment that causes brown/black hair and brown/tan pigment in the skin. There are some forms of albinism that don't effect the pigment that causes red hair. It is still rare to see a person with albinism have red hair, because fewer than one in ten people even carry a gene for the pigment of red hair.

Yes, my mistake, there is a variation of oculocutaneous albinism, that gives the person affected the red hair. But the cases were reported only in Africa and New Guinea, not in Pakistan, or Bulgaria. And the hair of the peole affected are not that fierce red. Rather something like that:

<modsnip>

Because still the levels of both variations of melanin (pheomelanin and eumelanin) are quite low. To get that fierce red colour you would need to have sky high level of pheomelanin, probably with some addition of the eumelanin. So my opinion is that there was some kind of hair dye involved. A good henna from Pakistan or India can give you that kind of coloring.

It was the mention of the combination of skin problems and eye problems that made me think early on she might have albinism.

When I read up, it did say the coloring/eye problems/skin problems can all have different degrees, although there are always eye problems. I wonder if little M was found under a blanket because she had to be kept out of the sun?

I fear bio mom's not able to cope financially, with the children she has, let alone another. I wonder if the paper payed her for the picture? It's worth a fortune.....I'm not saying mom should be rewarded for anything she might have done, but it would be good to think of those other little ones having the benefit of a little money spent on them. Though they looked pretty happy, anyway.

I'm worried they might somehow be put at risk now by exploitative people, because of all this publicity.

That red mop of hair is simply amazing! It doesn't even look like any henna color I've seen, either.

Fascinating! That's for posting it! I learned that magenta hair color is the rarest on the planet!

The Irish child has been established as being the biological child of the parents she was taken from and has been returned. They are considering their legal options at the moment.....
