I'm assuming they will be able to tell if he fell in? Certain broken bones, etc?

Open Verdict:

The family and friends of Steven Cook gathered at the Municipal Buildings in Crewe today hoping to learn the fate of their 20-year-old son, brother, uncle and friend who disappeared during a holiday in Crete in September 2005.

Inconclusive evidence meant that the coroner could not rule out accidental death or that Steven was a victim of crime.

Worth reading, it's an interesting summary of the investigation and inquest. I especially liked the message from his dad:

“The important thing is that Steven is home. The idea was that he would come home alive and we fought hard pursuing that possibility. Having him here, we have somewhere that we can go to share our memories, share our thoughts, have a chat to him and tell him that Liverpool are on for winning the league this year."

Murder charge 20 years after man vanishes in Crete

A man has been charged with murdering a British man who disappeared on holiday in Greece 20 years ago.

Steven Cook, from Sandbach in Cheshire, was 20 and on his first trip abroad without his parents when he disappeared in the resort of Malia in Crete on 1 September 2005.

His remains were eventually found by workmen at the bottom of a well in 2017, but since then there had been no further developments in the case.

Cheshire Police confirmed a 38-year-old British man, who was alleged to have been working in Malia at the time, had been charged by police in Greece and was now back in the UK.

Wow! This is a huge development. One wonders how LE figured this out. There were just too many unanswered questions for me regarding this case. First was if he had fallen accidentally then someone would have noticed the broken top and like most people would have checked to see if anything was in the well before repairing the lid. I believe I read that the building was not over the well when he disappeared. It was built later. If he had accidentally fell through the lid then it would have possibly been noticeable. If it were boards across the hole they would have been broken or out of place…if it were a lid of some sort it would have been splintered, broken or punctured. Someone would have had to repair it. So I always leaned toward this being a homicide. MOO and speculation.

One does wonder.... There was not a single detail regarding facts or evidence that leads to this conclusion. Hopefully more will come out soon.

I was saddened that both parents have passed... However, they probably did have more years of acceptance/peace without these new revelations.
