Hey Sleuths,

Just wanted to say hi and use my first post to thank you all for contributing to this excellent investigative forum.

I found out about the site from a Podcast and was surprised by all the detailed content here. How did I not hear of this community sooner?

I'm writing a few stories/pieces with ties to police procedural methods and think the thorough information here will be helpful. Also, if I ever stumble across anything credible and relevant to a case discussion, I will surely share.

Looking forward to joining the research and conversation.

Blessings,

Anthony

Welcome, Anthony. Glad you found us, always happy for new eyes Are you looking at any cases in particular?

Thanks. In general, my personal passion would be to see missing persons cases solved with the best possible results for the families. We recently had a few pedophile networks discovered near our hometown. Really disturbing stuff. I've been aware of and concerned about international human trafficking for decades, but these cases hitting so close to home were a wake up call for me. One of the things that interests me about this forum are the seemingly insignificant details which become important clues because someone cared enough to share them. Right now though, I am looking into a murderer's past for connections to an older story.

Well, Shin. I'm a noob. So any suggestions you may have would be welcome. I feel like Kwai Chang Caine trying to navigate the Old West in here. :)

Which murderer? Do we have a thread here?

Yes. I'm actually looking for information on Charlie Manson's mom...as strange as that may sound. I just haven't figured out how to zero in on that info yet.

A start?
The Murky Story Of Kathleen Maddox, The Mother Of Charles Manson
"The story of Kathleen Maddox is not well known, as details of her life tend to be anecdotal or contradicting. And after Manson’s conviction, Maddox retreated even further from the spotlight. She was labeled an alcoholic and a prostitute, and was said to have sold Manson for a pint of beer. Separating the fact from the fiction isn’t an easy task, but there is an underlying theme of bad parenting that undoubtedly runs through the majority of stories pertaining to Maddox.

The opening quote by Charles Manson comes from his 1988 book, Manson in His Own Words, where the infamous criminal gives insight into his take on Kathleen Maddox."

His Only Happy Memory Is His Mother Hugging Him

In 1942, the prison released Manson’s mother, Kathleen, on parole after she served three years. When she returned home, she gave Manson a hug. He later described this as his only happy memory from childhood.

His mother rented cheap motel rooms for them to live in, but by the time Manson was 12, she was trying to get him into foster care.

Extended family members have reported that Maddox was a runaway, leaving her home in Ashland, Ky. when she was a teenager and finding work as a prostitute. She was 16 years old when she gave birth in 1934 at Cincinnati General Hospital. Records unearthed there in 1987 show that the official name given to him on his birth certificate was in fact “no-name Maddox.”

Making of a monster: Charles Manson’s loveless childhood
"Young Charlie shared his “mother’s” hard-scrabble existence in the dirty coal towns of Appalachia.

A steady stream of male and female lovers came in and out of his life. Most were abusive losers steeped in booze.

Just like Kathleen Maddox, who once tried to sell the unwanted child in a Cincinnati bar for a pitcher of beer.

A botched gas station heist in Charleston, West Virginia, with a ketchup bottle sent his mother to prison in 1939 and Manson was sent to live with a religious aunt and uncle."
"When Kathleen was sprung in 1942, she retrieved the boy and they continued living their twilight existence.

In 1947, she decided she couldn’t handle Manson and he was put in the Gibault School for Boys in Indiana. Manson later escaped and tracked down Kathleen.

She rejected the 13-year-old."
