Yesterday reports stated the couple were attacked by a man with a cutlass sword.

with a man wielding a sword.

As a side note, the weapon was probably a machete.

The term 'cutlass' is used on some English speaking Carribean islands and say, Guyana and Belize instead of 'machete'. I believe that the term 'machete' originated on Spanish speaking islands / mainland countries.
