Driver pleads guilty in death of Linnea Veinotte in Grenada

The New Brunswick parents of Linnea Veinotte, the young mother who was killed in Grenada in 2015, will be spared waiting for the outcome of a trial for the man accused of striking her with an SUV and ditching her body.

Akim Frank pleaded guilty Thursday to manslaughter.

The prosecution accepted Frank's plea since manslaughter carries the same maximum life imprisonment penalty as the original charge of non-capital murder.

Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 7.

The driver awaiting sentencing in Linnea Veinotte's death told police in Grenada that she was alive after he struck her with his truck, and that he wanted to get her medical care.

Almost two years after the New Brunswick native was fatally injured, details have emerged of driver Akim Frank's account of his behaviour after he struck Veinotte almost exactly two years ago.

Frank, who ditched Veinotte's body on a golf course, was supposed to be sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty last month to manslaughter in St. George's, the capital of the Caribbean country. The hearing was postponed until Jan. 17, 2018.

The Grenada driver who pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of 36-year-old New Brunswick native Linnea Veinotte has been sentenced to 21 years and eight months in prison.
