This reminds me of a time about 2 years ago, I was standing in the juice aisle reading labels. My daughter's latest allergy report had come in and I was re-vamping my safe products list yet again.

This woman who had to be in her 50s (like me) pulls a jug of juice off the shelf. Cracks it open, pours some in the cap and drinks it. Decides she doesn't like it, puts the cap back on and walks off. I don't think she noticed me at all she was so engrossed in what she was doing. I was flabbergasted. I walk over to the nearest employee and tell him what she did. He goes and gets the the bottle of juice, and after I describe her, he goes to find her. I was too busy to pay any attention if they actually found her. I was so grossed out.

Like those licking ice cream and putting it back. Hope they arrested her.

same (fistbump cancer buddy)
the pills are huge; so is the bottle
I also take another extra vitamin D

Oh mine are gummies! I can’t swallow a big pill anymore.

Any leads for vitamin B complex in gummy form? The pills make me nauseous.

Update to my marinara sauce saga:

I cut up garlic first thinking that would be the hardest part. I was wrong. Then, I cut up 12 cups of tomatoes. Out of the big case of tomatoes, that is all that was ripe enough. Then I cut up basil - that was definitely the hardest part. I bought 2 ounces and didn't think I had enough, once it was all chopped. I have never dealt with basil before.

So I only cooked 6 cups of tomatoes for almost an hour because I did not want to put it through a blender or food processor. I picked out the big chunks of skin, added the seasonings, had 8 jars bubbling away. I got 2 jars. Two pint jars!!! I processed them anyway because the sauce has to be hot, the jars have to be hot and the lids have to be hot.

I go lay down to take a nap but I can't sleep compliments of my weekly 40 mg of steroids I had yesterday. I'm operating on 3.5 hours of sleep. My feet felt better tho.

I went back to the farm veg store, got more basil. When I got home, I l0oked at what I had already chopped and decided that was enough after all. The first 2 jars looked more like spaghetti sauce rather than marina so I dialed back on the seasonings. Now the second batch - only 2 more jars, they are processing.

I can say it was my timing that was my biggest downfall. Not having the ingredients ready, not timing the water right, not realizing I needed to sterilize the jars after washing them, etc. made it a long day. I will get better. I think by early next week the rest of the tomatoes should be ripe enough.

I found my canning book from 1990!! It is still relevant! I also was reminded by reading it, that I cannot water bath can veggie soup. I have to pressure can veggies. I remember we pressure canned years ago but it was my ex-hubby that did it. I am too afraid I will explode the house. I think I will ask my friends if anyone has one they can teach me to use and let me borrow.

Running jars, lids and screw tops through a hot dishwasher would work. Most dishwasher detergents are full of chlorine, other sterilizers. I truly believe I kept flu bugs and other illnesses at bay running everything through the dishwasher. Once done, I open the door. The hot dishes would dry themselves in no time. No need for drying cycle.
Good luck. Canning is an art. And a science. It’s wonderful to know you have provided the best for yourself, family and friends.

Beauty Products Online Store & Essential Health Supplies | TNG Worldwide

For those living in Michigan I just found this company, TNG Worldwide that, until Covid-19 sold beauty supplies: Since Covid they sell essentials which includes gloves, masks, plastic shields, hand sanitizers, etc. They have a new store in Farmington Hills. I believe they have other stores around the country.

I don't take B complex, but my B12 is a sublingual tablet. No chewing or swallowing; tablet melts under your tongue. I have also seen vitamin formulas in dropper bottles at health food stores.

The worst pill that I ever had was the potassium supplement Klor-Con. They were huge and could not be cut in half because it was a time-released dosage. The caplets were very dry and got stuck on the way down several times. On a few occasions, the pills came back up and made me feel like I was going to vomit  I blessed the day that my doctor was satisfied that my potassium levels had reached the normal range and that I no longer had to take Klor-Con.

Sally Beauty is another option. Several stores in metro Detroit. I've been to the SB in Rochester Hills a couple of times.

Would you share your recipe? I doctor up my cornbread with buttermilk, creamed corn or “Mexican” corn, (flecks of colorful peppers) extra bacon grease. A few jalapeños. Grated cheese. Oh, yes. Going for the gusto, cholesterol be d—-ed. From scratch cooking and baking really does not take that much longer. Besides, all the preservatives etc. are missing. Way healthier. Cast iron is the way to go. Same for roux.
We cook gluten free, egg free and dairy free because of food allergies. This recipe can use regular flour, milk, butter and a real egg instead of the substitutions. I personally think the reason it is so good is because I use white cornmeal, not yellow.

Cornbread
(gluten free, dairy free, egg free, vegan version)

1 cup of gluten free flour (Bobs Red Mill 1:1 Baking Flour)
¾ cup white cornmeal
3 tablespoons of regular sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon of egg replacer (Bobs Red Mill)
2/3 cup Flax Milk
1/3 cup vegan butter

Mix dry ingredients and set aside.
To 1 tablespoon of egg replacer add 2 tablespoons of water, blend well. Set aside
Melt vegan butter in a glass measuring cup. Add 2/3 cup milk to it. No need to mix.
Using a whisk, blend together the dry ingredients, egg replacer, butter and milk.

Use a metal pan, spray with cooking spray, bake at 425 degrees until edges begin to pull from sides of pan and toothpick comes out dry. Cool in pan for 10-15 minutes, then flip out onto cooling rack. This prevents it from becoming soggy on the bottom.

8x8 pan, 9x9 pan or 10” cake pan baking time depends on pan size.

Flax milk? What is that? Never heard of it. Flax seeds need to be ground up I know that. Milk? But the rest sounds yummy.

level measuring I presume.

OH DARN. I filled up smaller bottles and threw away the original one. o_O

I bought a very large one at Walgreens 2 weeks ago. I have no idea what the name was but it wasn't a brand name I'd seen before.

Darn. I might be better off to dump these bottles and get new ones that aren't on the list?

ETA: Just remembered I gave one of the big original ones to my daughter. She checked it---named Pro-Sanitize, by CleanBeautyProducts LLC.
I better google it

We haven't had to put gas in either of our vehicles for at least six weeks. DH is working from home, we are making once-weekly trips for food, carry-out dinner once a week, and an occasional trip to Meijer or Rite Aid.

Hi: went to Nino Salvaggio's today: haven't been there in a while: what a grocery store: they have everything and more: I love cherries and that is why i went (when you said they have great cherries) I bought both the Ranier and Bing. Also bought steak and chicken kabobs for dinner tonight: their porterhouse looked good but we will get that on another visit. also bought asparagus--- i could spend a whole day in there: I am also a sweets freak so found some good cookies and scones.

seems like bagged salad gets pulled off the shelf more often than anything else

I've gotten bagged salads occasionally when they're featured as a weekly special at Salvaggio's. The salads must be consumed within a day or two even if the "best by" date suggests otherwise. Moisture builds up inside the bag, and the contents become wet and slimy - definitely a breeding ground for bacteria.

Friday afternoon update from Houston, Texas.
Not overly crowded. Most everything in stock, if not all. I didn’t check every aisle. I’m refilling pandemic staples in the event Texas shuts down again. Or the city bc city and county leaders are trying to declare a problem...North Texas, too.
I just roll with the punches.

I got two bags this week in my food distribution. The salad was slimy and the coleslaw did not have an expiration date printed on it. I tossed them both. I felt bad but I can't take any chances.

When I had my transplant (2017) the nutritionist met with me and my daughter. No bagged salad preferably but if my daughter bought some, she had to wash it and dry it before I was allowed to eat it.

So much gratitude that I have fresh, organic, farm to table CSA box. Lettuce, beets, carrots, spinach, garlic shoots, and a bag of morel mushrooms. I also get a dozen eggs.

I have literally not had to go to the store, maybe once a month.

I did go tonight, and noticed a few bare shelves, the price of meat, other things seem to be rising. It is a bit disconcerting.
