Peaches Linked to Salmonella Outbreak - MedicineNet Health News

PLEASE READ THIS: Bagged peaches from Aldi's linked to Salmonella!!!
The trip to Nino's is usually my only "outing" most weeks. DH and I have hair appointments this afternoon and will get groceries afterward. I was only out of the house once this week for a doctor's appointment. I'd go nuts if I couldn't get out of the house once in a while o_O

Our trips to the supermarket, including Nino's are my only outings except for hair appt every couple weeks. Oh, yeah and some doctor appts and next week a dental appt to get my teeth cleaned and x-rayed. I would go bonkers if I couldn't get out of the house. I thought about going to Bed Bath and Beyond but changed my mind and I want to buy a winter jacket and thought about going to Steinmart, but thought again and will order a jacket online. I can't imagine trying clothes on. ewww

This company would sell to multiple clients so why are they only listing Aldi’s? That strikes me as odd. Like they’re trying to hide something. Hmmm.

Wawona-brand bagged peaches sold at ALDI

ETA: ok it’s not just Aldi’s.
Prima® Wawona Recalls Bagged Peaches Due to Possible Salmonella Risk

Company Name:
Prima Wawona
Brand Name:
Wawona, Prima, Kroger, Organic Marketside, and Wegmans

I had to look up garlic scapes. Very cool.

What will you do with the huckleberries? Are they sweet like blueberries?

Oh goodness! I like peaches.
In smoothies. In sangria. Ahh, peach pie.
Would it come from the peaches or being stored incorrectly in sweaty plastic bags?

Garlic scapes are great in pasta and in quiches.

I've been skipping the grocery store for fruits and veggies lately and opting for our local farms. After all NJ is the "Garden State". Last Saturday I had fresh farm made peach ice-cream with fresh peach topping. Best thing I have tasted all summer. The corn here has been fantastic this season. We have two farms close by that make their own ice cream so I try to only go there every so often, because sometimes I leave with a hot fudge sundae instead of something to go with dinner. LOL!

That peach ice cream sounds so yummy!!!!!!!

You may have a point. The recent onion recall was due to bagged produce, and bagged salads have also been recalled for salmonella.

I have been doing curbside pickup for months but it’s not ideal.
I’ve called repeatedly about meat that I get has a sell by date on the day I pick it up. (If I’m lucky to get the meat I selected)
Bagged produce or clamshell salad mix is out of date the next day. My brother in another state is seeing similar issues.
Prices have increased and quality of the meat has changed.
I might need to borrow a tent and go fishing one weekend!

Nino's is the only store where I've been since mid-March. I've ordered some items online but have absolutely no need or desire to go to any other type of store. Two hair appointments since late January, and I'd like to get a second mani/pedi - maybe on Monday. Like you, I've had a few doctor appointments, finished interrupted physical therapy, and both DH and I have dental cleanings on September 9 since both of our appointments were cancelled earlier. My PCP advised that it is not good for our emotional well-being to stay cooped up in the house and never venture out. There is nowhere that DH and I have been where people are not wearing masks. Michigan "masked up" early on, and I think most people with common sense are making their best effort to comply. We've been out for dinner twice since Valentine's Day and are going out to dinner tomorrow. The restaurant has very strict staff and patron protocols, and we are confident that we will be safe.

Getting out of the house is mandatory for one's mental health - even just to Ninos or the supermarket----- I have to say around where I live in Farmington Hills /W Bloomfield area, everybody is masked up. I hardly ever see someone without a mask. In Fort Myers Florida it was not like that and I imagine it is the same way now even though they have quite an increase in cases over the past couple months.

Thank you for sharing. These are among reasons that DH and I prefer to select our own fresh produce, fish, meat, groceries, etc. I've watched "professional shoppers" in Nino's who appear to move rather quickly in fulfilling orders for Fresh To Go customers. Nino's started offering curbside pickup long before COVID, but I'm sure there are now many more customers utilizing the service. I understand the need to be efficient in filling carts with requested items, but the haphazard manner in which they "pick" items leaves a lot to be desired. As I mentioned previously, I like being able to select my own fresh produce, fish at the seafood counter, meat at the butcher shop, etc. I know exactly what I'm getting.

I spent a lot of time yesterday researching the produce delivery programs available where I live. There are many from which to choose: Doorganics, Imperfect Foods, Misfits Market, Hungry Harvest, Farmstop, Farmbox, The Good Trade, among others. Besides Nino Salvaggio's, there are a couple of other local international marketplaces that also offer online orders with curbside pickup. I read about the different "boxes" from which to choose and pricing is competitive. Some purveyors offer choices while others send what's fresh and available at the time of delivery. Thanks to those here who have shared their experiences with produce delivery services and my research, I would definitely consider using one of them if it became necessary for our circumstances.

Huh. I've never heard of garlic scapes. I want some, now!

That's my fear with curbside. Produce, dairy (especially things like cottage cheese which I think they must not sell as much of as they used to) and meat dates are extremely important.

We had a local produce service years ago - they didn't deliver but had weekly pick-up times and places that were great. They stopped doing that when a weekly produce market started up. That wasn't as close or convenient for me but it was okay. They stopped that for COVID. And we had a small produce stand by the side of the road which I loved - she only had a few things but what she had (peaches, tomatoes) was GREAT. Then the vacant building she was in front of sold to a developer for apartments, so she's gone. I've been whining ever since.:(

Okay, I was going to give my cabbage away, but I decided to make sauerkraut. I bought this special fermentation crock. It is fermenting away.
