Before they became a precious commodity, I used to wear surgical gloves for gardening  When we go to the nursery for our annuals and potting soil, I will get a nice pair of gardening gloves, and I also need new garden shears. When I'm able to purchase surgical gloves and masks, they will be used strictly for protection.
Our local nursery had surgical gloves for sale, 100 pair per pack, 10.99. And 8 oz hand sanitiser for 8.99. And nice masks for 6 dollars. They had a 2 per person limit on each.

I think they are useful to me and my husband, and here is why.

When I go to the market, I am touching grocery items that others may have touched or breathed or coughed upon. And I am putting in my pin code on a machine that has been touched all day long....

So gloves help for 2 reasons...one, I am much less likely to touch my face when my gloves are on. It makes me way more aware of my 'dirty' hands when they are encased in plastic.

And 2, as soon as I reach my car, I can peel them off , throw them away in a bag I use for that purpose, and sanitize my hands immediately. That way I am not bringing any of the ick that I touched back home with me.

I feel like the gloves are a better barrier than just touching things with my skin, in my mind anyway. Who knows?
I don’t shop much at all, maybe 3 times in 6 weeks. When I get to my vehicle, I put hand sanitizer on my gloves and unload my groceries. No, it doesn't soak in but that’s the point. It transfers to my bag handles. Otherwise, if I immediately removed my gloves, I’d be getting germs off the bags and items right back on to my hands. I do get my keys out and open my doors with the gloves on. I remove my gloves, use more hand sanitizer on my key fob, door handles and steering wheel. By the time I get home, that hand sanitizer that was on my gloves has hopefully killed germs on my bag handles. I unload my groceries to the garage and go wash up.

who knew i wouldnt be able to find a freaking thermometer
in the entire city of Fort Myers-- i had a thermometer but it conked out so i thought ok-- i will go to CVS or Walgreen- or Walmart- none of these stores nor Target, nor any medical supply stores have thermometers--- I ordered one online two weeks ago- still waiting. I just don't understand not having them in stock: I can understand being sold out, but don't them re-order?

Do you remember the good old days when thermometers were glass tubes that didn't need batteries? :)

This is what we have, and it has worked like a charm for many years.

I appreciate everyone's grocery shopping posts and want to share ours from the past weekend. I didn't go out at all, but DH went to Salvaggio's on Friday, Meijer on Saturday. He got three whole boneless skinless chicken breasts (Bell & Evans), tuna steaks, fresh fruit and veggies. Meat and seafood well-stocked with slightly higher than usual pricing. Still no I Can't Believe It's Not Butter, and that dairy section was very sparse. Meijer hasn't had Kleenex boutique cubes for several weeks but they do have regular long boxes. Meijer also had no ICBINB, but DH got a 12-pack of Charmin even though we have plenty of TP. We're fine with Smart Balance butter substitute for now, but when ICBINB is available, we will some because it's our preference. Trip to Costco on this weekend's agenda.

I have purchased the Kleenex cube at Dollar Tree.
Los Angeles area.
Maybe they are in MI, too.

Grocery prices are the highest they’ve been in decades

We aren't imagining the increase at the grocery store. We baked french bread yesterday - one loaf plain and one loaf with bouquet garni - both were delicious but the bouquet garni was especially good with olive oil. Next on the list, we are going to try a sourdough starter.

I ordered some Kleenex cubes on Amazon a few weeks ago when I couldn't find any tissues anywhere. They still have them in stock:

JUST SCORED some hand sanitiser!

My daughter called me to say that Green Thumb nursery had sanitiser, masks gloves for very fair prices, 2 per customer. I hurried over there because it is just a few minutes away from us.

ProSanitize 8 fl oz for 7.99

I used it and it feels great and you can feel the alcohol and the tingle and it dries quickly---it is pretty good.

That is a fair price for hand sanitizer now. A year ago it would have been outrageously expensive. Back then a bottle that size would have been a dollar or two.

I bought 2 gallon size jugs of hand sanitizer at Costco the other day, and felt like I scored!

Restaurant supply stores in our area sell disposable vinyl gloves, and also food service stores like GFS. One of my friends just bought a bulk package of 10 boxes with 100 gloves in each for $30.

ok but why does your friend need 1000 gloves?
not to sound accusatory - it's just frustrating when so many of us can't find needed supplies

They were only sold in a bulk package of 1000 gloves. Ten boxes of 100 gloves all inside an over wrap together, sold as one bulk industrial sized package. This is the only way they were sold, she didn’t grab up ten boxes of gloves.

Sorry, I should has made that clear in my first post. I didn’t mean to make it sound like she bought them up to hoard.

My local stores are starting to get most things restocked, with the exception of Clorox wipes, can't get those anywhere. It's comforting, but I'm also buying things a little at a time in anticipation of the second wave. Anyone else?

I'm not hoarding, but I'm not letting myself run out of anything either, in anticipation of a second wave. I'm making sure that my pantry, freezer, and fridge stay full, rather than run down right before a grocery trip. I'm keepin 1-2 extra of items and a couple of packs of unopened toilet paper on hand.
