Groundhog Day Storm May Affect More than 100 Million People

North of Detroit, checking in. From what I can tell, we didn't get nearly what they were calling for. I see maybe 7 or 8 inches so far, but like earlier, it's really hard to tell with all of the wind. The drifts are significant, though. I'm SO going back to bed.

If I'm going to be working from home, it's going to be *after* I get some more sleep.

I am south Orange Cty so I just get the warm weather from the SA's and not too much wind. Our weather is calling for SA wind conditions from tonight through the weekend. I will be in LA County over the weekend in west Hollywood, so I won't wear an updo.

Stay safe peeps everywhere.

Those must be winds from the North, J; it's calm out here. Perfect today, actually.

No school again in central PA. The temp here is 34 degrees w/ rain, but the temp fluctuates up to 10 degrees on the way to school (20 minutes/17 miles away through the mountains), so I'm glad to be staying home. Of course, my happiness may also have something to do w/ my grad class being cancelled. :D We also have a wind advisory starting at noon w/ sustained winds between 25 & 30 mph w/ gusts of 50 mph. At least the snow we have won't blow around w/ the layer of ice on top!
Stay warm and safe everyone!

Ohhhh I spoke too soon. Frozen pipe has delayed any hope of sleep. Ugh. :(

Got home okay... it took me almost an hour when it normally takes half that. The wind was BAD and there were times when it was blowing over the road so hard that I couldn't see the road. I was almost crying, I was so scared!! And I'm used to driving in crap... but this is one of the worst I've driven in yet.

We have a nearly four-foot snow drift on our back patio where we normally let the dogs out. That happened within two hours. I went out there to shovel a bit ago and I couldn't believe how hard the wind was blowing and how heavy the snow was. This is crazy.

Northwest Indiana here again...we have about 12 inches so far, but three foot drifts forming out the back door. We usually let our pooch out the back door, but are using the front tonight...he took off around the house, and I spent 10 minutes going from front door to back door, calling for him. Finally saw the dummy out the back and caught in that 3 foot drift. It's a good thing he broke loose, cuz no way was I going out in this to rescue his 40+ lb. butt! LOL!

Now we are supposed to get Lake Effect snow all day. Hubby staying home from work. Argh!!! Enough!!!!

Im in Maine, it seems we started the storm around 3 am... Of course we had a pre storm of about 4 inches yesterday. Everyone is home for the day... Most business are closed. The toughest part of all the snow is the plows keeeping up. Yesterday I drove on about 3 inches for 8 miles.... All white. I'm surprised I was still driving on the road.

Im in Ontario, our school board closed all schools, highways are closed and plows are off the roads in my area.

Southeastern PA seems to have some ice, but nothing that won't go away in a little while.

I'm getting totally tired of stocking up. "Let the sun shine. . ."

Looks like the storm is giving us a miss. We're not getting much, and now the forecast has calmed down.

I knew if I slacked off and didn't prepare enough, this would happen. :sigh:

We didn't get much in my area either.

Well, we didn't get all that much, actually, but the boards bowed under public demand for a day off, it seems!

It is so bitterly cold still here in CO, my car wouldn't start this morning, thought I could take the day off, but then hubby called road side assistance, and they got it running :banghead: LOL, so off I go, stay safe and warm everyone!!!!!

N. Indiana here, like others I don't think it was the Snowzilla they called for, but also like others, it's hard to tell with the drifts, which are quite high. The did cancel the blizzard warning that was suppose to continue to 7pm tonight, so praise the Lord for that. It will still be a day to dig out, but my neighbor with a snowplow did a lot of it for me, which is a blessing. :)

The storm was a BUST! Still bad out there but nothing like the hype...

Mid Michigan (at least my part) got a lousy 6.6 inches. So far, weather guys are still insisting that it will keep going until we get a foot. Everything is closed, schools, universities, libraries. The freeways have been plowed, but that's about it. There's nothing moving except plow trucks and semis on the freeways, but I think that's because of the blowing, not the snow itself so much. And considering that it's cold and no one has anywhere to go, I don't think anybody wants to fight with it. So the cold and the wind are bad, but not the monstrous amounts of snowfall that we were forecast, as of yet.

OT: Speaking of Groundhog Day, I tuned in (for the first time) and watched the video of Punxutawney Phil. http://www.groundhog.org/

Boy, was I in for a rude awakening. Wish I hadn't watched the video. That poor little fella looks terrified - I would be, too.

I have lived almost 43 years with visions in my head of a cute little groundhog out in the forest, with someone hiding nearby so as not to disturb him as he poked his little head up and either came out or ducked back down. I wish I still had that vision... :(

Not much in PA is what it seems.

weathered the blizzard. I feel awful for Jimmy. His fever was up again in the wee hours. His second ever snow day and he is sick. He was sick for the first one too. Poor kid. A friend who lives a few blocks over was out all night plowing lots. Started at 8pm, on his way home after a long stressful night, he stopped by and plowed our two driveways so we could get out if need be. Bless you Erik.

DH and DD are across the street helping grandpa dig his drive out. Next they have to go the next block over and dig grandma out. Then I have to send DH out for more children's Motrin.

some photos in my local paper of Snowzilla effects.

Hope everyone has been staying safe and using good sense.
