Groundhog Day Storm May Affect More than 100 Million People

That is an amazing photo! This is starting to remind me of the movie "Day After Tomorrow", I think is the name....:coldout:

Yep, that's what I thought, too. It looked a LOT like that.

Blizzard of 2011: 3rd snowiest and counting

>>As of 9 a.m., 19.5 inches of snow was recorded at O'Hare International Airport, putting the storm ahead of the infamous storm of January 1979 that left 18.8 inches and was widely considered a factor in the mayoral race.<<

I still have my "I survived the Blizzard of 79" coffee mug LOL. I got one of the last planes out of ORD.

My other brother sent me this picture from his front window this morning. That would be his front walk to the door.

Personally, I am FED UP with winter~!

I am home, but stranded. Truck is stuck down the road in a snow drift.

It's still coming down here. Blowing at 40+ mph. :banghead:

We've got about 22" on the ground, and it's still blowing and drifting. They're telling people to STAY OFF THE ROADS!!! The roads are impassable. So we're stuck here. We've got everything we need, so we're doing all right. I'm pretty happy about that. :rocker:

LOVE your siggy, Willow!!!! :D

As you can see, my brother doesn't mess around. LOL.
When I was younger and stupider :) the minute the news said impassable or impossible, the first thing I would do is get in my car with my bf and we would try and prove them wrong. So dumb, but so exciting to try and get through those roads and snowdrifts. We made it most of the time, while our poor mothers were at home cussing us out for being such rebels. Needless to say we didn't call them for help when we were stranded.

my 86 yo mother is snowed in with oatmeal and hot chocolate so she is a happy camper. She cannot get any of her doors open and so I figure that is good because it will keep her from trying to get out and go anywhere. LOL. She said it is sunny for now and the snow has stopped, but it is gittin' colder. She is a seasoned vet when it comes to Chicago snowstorms, but my ex-SIL lives about 4 doors down so she has got immediate assistance if anything should happen. No power outages or anything for her in the NE subs.

Not far from you, willow! Stay safe. My friend made it to my house, brought me some more essentials. Need my truck....still stuck down the road and I can't get to it yet!

PLEASE MAKE IT STOP :PRAYING NOW:

Um, and then I walked outside. Everyone that tries to drive is getting stuck. (Well, not me, but I got ground clearance.) It's easily a foot deep and now, it's snowing again, expected to add another 2 inches. Yeah, we got slammed. They are plowing and salting freeways and main roads, but no side streets or subdivisions will even see a plow until Friday. THey announced that about noon. Beautiful.

(And I made my poor almost-boyfriend (don't ask) go to the store to get me cough drops.) I'm not going back the the store, no way, no how, no sir.

The storm was a BUST! Still bad out there but nothing like the hype...

I think it's all in my neighborhood, we have 8-10 foot drifts here.
Oh fun and happiness.

The Thundersnow we had last night was pretty cool. Never seen anything like it before. My friends fiance left out of work at 9pm and was stuck on the e-way for 12 hours. He didn't get home until 9:30 this morning! (usually a 30min drive)

The snow last night.

Thanks for posting the images, KittyKat. I lived in Chicago for awhile, but never saw anything like that. Amazing! I feel awful for anyone who was stuck on the road for 12 hours while that was taking place. Hopefully your friend's fiance is home and resting under a pile of blankets now.

STILL snowing..........

I'm sure he is. What made it even worse is yesterday was his Birthday, what a way to spend your Birthday, lol.

On a positive note, it's nice to see everyone outside coming together to help each other dig out their cars! My neighbor even brought me some home made lasagna she made last night.

You made my husband's day, JBean! He grew up on a dairy farm just north of Chicago and gets enormous pleasure out of not being there any more.

Your brother's picture will end up on our fridge, I'm sure.
