Group Plans Memorial Walkway For Caylee

I think it takes more than just a few requests to get them to respond. I got a canned email back. Here's the link in case anyone is interested:

IMO

Hi jon, I used a different link: http://charityreports.bbb.org/public/inquire/Default.aspx?BureauID=9999

I filled out all the info on why I felt they were suspect in the small comment box at the bottom. I haven't heard back from them yet. I hope I didn't use the wrong form.
It also gives a suggestion (and link) at the bottom: "You may also wish to check with your states' Attorney General or Secretary of State's Office." (I haven't tackled that one yet.)

Does anyone else feel that it should not be this hard to find information on a charity? Shouldn't it be as visible as their request for your payment information? If you are going to send a charity money they should be required by law to provide the public with financial information and testimonies from all recipients who benefited from their charitable work. Sometimes "trust me" is not enough. jmo

They are required by law to provide certain financial information. It is not required that it be included with, in this case, their website. But, you can contact them and request information. Here is some information regarding public disclosure.

FAQs About the Exempt Organization Public Disclosure Requirements

The one thing that is absolutely consistent over the last 10 or 12 years is that Timothy Eric Segura and/or David Sears do not ever include a traditional resume or tangible list of things accomplished and for whom those things were accomplished. It is always very vague, even when running for political office. The other thing that is consistent is that they always use Adobe PageMill 3.0 Win to build 'their' websites.

I actually meant to supply the link to this U.S. Government, IRS page as well:

Life Cycle of a Public Charity

"During its existence, a public charity has numerous interactions with the IRS – from filing an application for recognition of tax-exempt status, to filing the required annual information returns, to making changes in its mission and purpose. The IRS provides information, explanations, guides, forms and publications on all of these subjects – they are available through this IRS Web site. The illustration below provides an easy-to-use way of linking to the documents most charities will need as they proceed though the phases of their “life cycle.”"

The existing regulations imposed on public charities is quite extensive, and I think thats a good thing.

What concerns me is when Bring Kids Home talks about their charity as a sort of 'virtual' charity as though people were playing "Farmville" or some other such game.

From their "Volunteer" page:

"Bring Kids Home is a unique, flexible, mobile, and highly virtual organization that allows you to live in any state and join our collective charity dedicated to the cause of missing and abused children. Thank you for taking the first step."

And, if you do good, you will 'win' one of their T-shirts or caps. Hmmm. Kind of like playing some online game.

How are they going to keep child predators from volunteering? Are they insured against such things? (Just a side thought, sorry.)

And, it is concerning that while they have had the charity designation now for a few years, there is NO TRACK RECORD!!! Obviously everyone needs to start for a first time, but 3 years? No accomplishments? Not good.

I have to wonder how many of these "charities" have been set up to make money and to avoid paying taxes. Maybe the government needs to tighten up on how these charities are regulated. Worthwhile charities have no problems revealing their records. We have been given a little glimpse of how some charities are in name only and never accomplish anything other than spend the money with no accountability. Charities should be protected but also they need to be accountable. jmo

YEPPERS -----> People who have nothing to hide......... hide nothing.

+respectfully snipped+
Thanks i.b.nora.
Seems to be just a verbose (and possibly misleading to those who believe they are 'joining' something) way of saying "you can donate online"

Their Facebook and Twitter have been silent for several days, I wonder what they're concentrating their time on.

After hearing what Mr. Keese had to say about Dr. Phil and the A's it made me realize just how horrified a family may feel to see their child's name in a memorial park for Caylee. Caylee is about the death of a child not one that was missing. The missing part was a lie perpetrated by her own mother which took resources away from families that really had a missing person at the time. If I had a missing child the last thing I would want to imagine is that my child might end up like Caylee. Families of a missing child need to have hope, not dispair which this park would surely bring to them.

Sometimes I just don't know where people's heads are. Thank you Mr. Keese for speaking up. Now maybe someone will listen. jmo

Well, Bringkidshome, has added some new stuff/changed about their mysterious founder "the Champ".
He is not named as the founder anymore but has now morphed into an estate that funded the Org in 2009 and was a 1940's boxer that now links to an article , you have to pay for. But is still called founder on the picture.
Somehow that does not make it any more believable to me than the version they had earlier.

http://bringkidshome.org/faqs.htm

I guess after all that digging we did about Henry Segura, they revised/perfected their original (fictional?) story so it will go down easier in a gullible throat.
I do not recall "Missing people" software either.

Where is Bring Kids Home Based?
Bring Kids Home originally filed for corporate status in New Jersey but since 2009 we are now in approximately 15 states and growing; over time we expect to maintain corporate status in multiple states
.
How Large is Bring Kids Home?
We are a small organization with under 100 volunteers, the Red Cross for example has 97 million volunteers. Our goal is to find volunteers who are dedicated to this social cause in all 52 states, volunteer link.

..under 100 volunteers in 15 states over 2 years-----i wonder what EVER they could do ?? ( get caylee's name somewhere in there-----ta da! caylee's memorial light show extravaganza! ) to get more exposure--------and $$$$'s????

:floorlaugh::floorlaugh:
They must have been reading this thread, waited till it was disappearing in the woodwork and made their changes. Now their fifties picture of the "Champ" matches up better with that 1940's time frame.
They are sneaky bast*rds. Kept them on my radar though.

I've been watching and waiting too. I'm very patient. Lol

They are now advertising a full refund on the bricks if the project croaks, was 80-30=50 bucks before. Caveat, as long as that (imaginary?)private donor hangs in there:floorlaugh: May be it is Jeff Hopkins, was he not rich??

http://bringkidshome.org/refund.htm

4) Receive a Full Refund.

Donations to Public Charities are Non-Refundable, however a private donor has come forward to enable this special and revised refund policy. The brick refund program should not be confused with General Donations which are non-refundable.

..are "donations to public charities non-refundable"--per law?? or per "them"??

..a private super-hero can't over-ride the laws governing a charity..

..however-----if true...

..it could also be zanny---she had a rich dad, who bought her a car without blinking an eye after the terrible car crash......she babysat for free....yep...she's rolling in cash, the private donor is a toss-up----either jeff, or her...

Well donations are a gift and as far as I know , not refundable. Especially a general donation to a charity. However, if making a donation for a specific project that never gets off the ground and appears to be a scam, I bet you can get your "gift" back.

Well no need for me to sign up, the about page tells me they could have written the entry themselves!
