Update on secrecy in the Chapo trial. The defense & prosecution just filed a letter responding to complaints by @nytimes and @VICE that too many documents were filed either under seal or heavily redacted. Here's what the parties are proposing subject to the judge's approval.

Four days after the govt rests, prosecutors will unseal their filings or explain why they should continue being secret. W/in 30 days of a verdict, the filings will be unsealed or at least we'll get a reason as to why they are not.

This is a) pretty good news on the transparency front b) likely to reveal interesting and previously unknown things about the trial and c) due to the hard work on unsung lawyers at both organizations.

There's also a 60-day unseal-or-explain-why-not deadline for more recently filed documents. But again, it's not a bad resolution to the issue.
