Prosecution witness Jeremy Leach, SC Highway Patrol:
ETA: NL is prosecutor currently
Testimony about headlight analysis on video, defense is objecting

  • #22
I wonder if the Defense is going to try to add this Jeremy to the list of guys named Jeremy and Jerry, who could've had something to do with Heather's disappearance.

JL: headlights very bright, and dark-colored pickup truck with chrome toolbox

  • #25
JL testifies they believed it was a truck.
Defense objects.
Judge overrules, because the witness is testifying to what he saw.
JL testifies the truck pick-up truck was dark in color.
HCPD then contacted him to say they had the truck in custody.
JL test drives the truck down Hwy 814, by the cameras to recreate the event.
The recreation was done as close to the original night as possible (full moon, etc.).

The recreation was done February 24, 2014.
Nothing was altered on the truck before the recreation.

JL: tried to re-create video of truck using Moorer's truck as seen on video with conditions as close to conditions seen on original video

  • #29
Seven videos were filmed from the recreation.
Grant Fredericks (video forensics analyst expert) then did his own recreations for headlight dispersion.

I'm not seeing or hearing anything at the live links this morning. All I get is a black screen. Anyone else having a problem?

JL: cross-examination:

Commonly does accident re-creation

Video first reviewed Jan. 2014 they were able to determine make/model of vehicle. Couldn't say it was particular vehicle

Next analysis Feb.24 after SM arrest, able to identify vehicle class and characteristics, not specific vehicle

No re-direct

Y'all, I keep zoning out for the Defense's cross examination. I doubt anything worth hearing was said. HA!

State calls Grant Fredericks.

GF is a video forensics analyst/expert.
Something tells me we're about to be knee-deep in headlight testimony.

GF has been examining video for over 30 years.
He has been testifying for roughly 25 years in the US, Canada, New Zealand, all over the world.
He's been qualified as an expert "many hundreds of times."
He's been an instructor at the FBI.
He's a co-author for the standards for in-car video systems for LE (dash cams).
He lectures throughout the country.
He has developed curriculum for certification of video forensics analysis.

So, he's kind of a big deal, which we already knew.

Judge Dennis has qualified GF as an expert in forensics video analysis with no objection from the Defense.
