Harley in the Hangar: Chop Shop?

Last October, we had 4 vehicles go missing from driveways on my street in one night/morning. 2 2012Toyota Highlanders and 1 2013 Acura MDX and a 2012 BMW 6 series. The SUV were stolen between 9 pm and midnight, all on a quiet street...all loaded on to trailers. The BMW was stolen when the parents walked their child to school. We live in North Toronto where crime rates are low but theft is high. My neighbor got a call that they found her car in a storage container being shipped overseas. When she went to identify it, she was shocked that it was just a container of parts. For her untrained eye the only connection that she made was an orange skate lace on the floor of the container that had been on her sons hockey skates that had been in the car. No signs of anything else. In the end, apparently the dealership had a service person whom had access to private information of clients coming in for servicing and was working on the side for a "Russian mafia" connection. The Acura and BMW were just picked up because they saw them when coming by. It makes no sense to me but apparently the $$ was in the parts?

The word 'Iceberg' comes to mind. Someone masterminds these sort of things....in such a way that they stay away from potential suspicion themselves and they heap tons of suspicion on another/others. Who orchestrates the show but appears not to act in concert? The RM connection is interesting....

Shipping containers are sometimes referred to as "c-cans".

Google waterloo airport hangar "c-cans"

(make sure to put the quotes around c-cans)

Hopefully you get the same interesting result that I did.

Wonder when we are going to see LE charge someone for the theft of the Harley?
Was also thinking that since the Harley was still in the hanger, perhaps the original target of the theft was the trailer.

Have you shared your theory, if so, please share again. I cannot solve this thing alone.

I still suspect a name that we have heard in the past will be popping up again before this whole thing is over. JMO

Yep, nothing like an anonymous guy for really reliable information.

Sorry to sound dense, but what info are we supposed to be looking at when we use the search terms <waterloo airport hangar "c-cans"> ?

I see the google hit wrt there being nothing related to airplanes in the hangar. Please specify what info you are discussing and how it relates to whatever theory you are considering.

There's an online sports forum where people are discussing the TB case, and one person says their friend was in the Waterloo hanger and there wasn't one airplane-related thing in there - apparently it was full of vehicles and c-cans.

Sounds a little fishy IMO, considering there are several photos of the Waterloo hanger online and it is nearly empty on the inside, save for a couple of prop planes and a helicopter.

Hopefully I'm allowed to summarize: there seems to be a message board on another topic where they happen to be discussing the case. A "friend of a poster" claims to have seen the inside of the hangar and said it was all cars and "c-cans", no aircraft. I guess the implication is overseas black-market car parts.

*not my website, not my theory*

Edit: cansleuther beat me.

Thanks cansleuther ... that's the one I thought was being discussed, but I couldn't figure out how it fits into Blomquist's theory.

WRT the pics, I guess it depends on when they were taken. Also could just be however the friend initially related the info, i.e. maybe saying "ha, airplane hangar .. it's just full of cars and auto parts" and it got diluted in the retelling ... that there wasn't even an airplane in there.

I wonder if any of the cars in the hangar were still CM's collection.

His interest in automobiles seemed to come from his grandfather, who amassed a collection he stored in his hangar — all of them American built.

And WM carried equipment in his animal rights work. Could the c-cans have been used then?

While he gave occasional training sessions at Millardair, where he was listed as vice-president, company pilots said he was more interested in protesting the seal hunt and campaigning for animal rights. He learned to fly helicopters so he could ferry activists and equipment to hard-to-reach locations.

And up until 1990, the main business of Millard Air was flying automotive parts.

That photo appears to be copyrighted and that is probably the issue. See below...........

I'd like to use a photo I found on Flickr. How do I do that?

Is it possible the family has been running stolen auto parts for years, mixing stolen parts in with legit ones to avoid detection? Dellen's obit for his father mentioned something about a time when competition was friendly. I wonder if the reference was to stolen auto parts and not the airline industry?
