Huge difference! Woody allen (even though I think its still gross personally and he disgusts me) slept with her when she was of adult consent.

Well the Polanski/Allen comparison might not be perfect, but the fact remains that there are plenty of sicko predators in the United States and in Europe. No one country/continent has the monopoly on that particular bad behavior.

I agree there, this is coming from a mom of a 3 year old who has not yet and will probably never have a babysitter. Only my mom has watched her a few times. I wasnt saying we dont have a share of our own bad apples, just that she thought " as long as the brits are totally cool about it" that everyone else should be too.

Yeah - I hear you. I do think the Brits are a bit more comfortable with nudity in general though.

I can't imagine being brave enough to be nude onstage at the age of 17. Apparently, with the way the play is staged, a number of the audience seats are on the stage with the actors, so it's very intimate.

Europeans and Asians IN GENERAL are much more comfortable with nudity than American's are - whether we approve or not. Even TELEVISION in Europe and other countries allows for much bawdier humor and some nudity (Benny Hill anyone). Janet Jackson's "costume malfunction" would not have gotten a second glance in many counties.

There are predators and bad people EVERYWHERE. Witness Mr Foley sending inapproriate e-mails and making advances to young pages in OUR OWN GOVT. Britain probably isn't any more plagued by sexual predators, pedophiles or other criminals than the US is. I don't think being more comfortable with nudity somehow equates with being more lenient on criminals, pedophiles or sexual predators. The problem is the persons who have criminal deviations - not nudity, not TV, not movies, not plays, not books, not the internet. The problem is IN THEM, not in the materials - they would be what they are if there was NO media available. The media does NOT make pedophiles or rapists or criminals or murderers.


We may not LIKE it but we live in a global world where what happens everywhere is news on your desktop in seconds. THE USA is PART of that global community. Europe has not sunk into total ruin or destruction or depraved moral decay in the thousands of years it has been in existance as civilized society. The USA has but a couple of hundred years experience in comparison. The idea that we would even suggest banishing every person with any global awareness to another country for their OPINIONS sounds more like IRAN than the USA. Removing every shred of sexuality or nudity leaves us wearing burka's and veils in public and segregating the sexes. Also sounds a lot like Iran. The USA is NOT the morality police for the world - we haven't even figured out a way to control our own sexual perverts (Duncan let loose to kill Shasta's family and abuse her and her brother, Polly Klass's killer set free to kill her). THIS makes ME angry - Danial Radcliffe's stage nudity and simulated sex at 17 and Dakota Fanning pretending to be attacked verbally does not.

I think we are focusing on the WRONG THINGS. Quit worrying about censoring TV/Radio and the internet - which can be turned off, and movies- which can be ignored and focus on the PEOPLE who are preying on our children and removing them from society permanently. And we could really make some headway on wife and partner abuse too. THOSE things are important.

Equus is a great play, fantastically written. It's not all about some naked kid running around on stage, so the nudity is probably not a huge part of the play. I'd love to see it, more because I love the play than anything.

Oh yes the Germans are the same way. Last summer was our first summer living over here and I decided to take my kids to the swimming pool. Oh boy it didnt bother me in the least but my kids were shocked to see and tons of naked children running around. A grown man changed out of his speedo into his shorts right next to me on the bench I tried hard not to peek. I just had to tell my kids not to stare and that its how it is here and we have to accept their ways. My daughter who is 13 was like nope sorry mom its grose lol

I think the point with Woody is that she was his adopted daughter! That qualifies him as a pervert in my book. Besides hadn't the whole thing been going on for a while, since she was a teenager? Mia found nude pictures of the girl taken by Woody, that's how she realized what was happening if I remember correctly. So basically, he was shagging his adopted daughter, taking nude pics of her and still pretending to be happily married. Thank God Mia ran away and ran away fast!

Technically she wasnt his daughter only mia adopted her. It was found out later that it was supposedly when soon-yi was an age of consent. Mia felt it happened earlier. Im not trying to defend him, in my eyes he is nasty. I feel like he should have been put on trial to determine it. Even if she was of consent I think he abused being one of her caretakers and putting her in a position where she probably felt she had no choice. Roman Polanski actually won't travel to the U.K. because of the extradition treaty with the US. He is a French citizen and the French do not extradite their own citizens to another country to stand trial (the US does not either). I think I read that he also travels to Poland and other countries that won't extradite him but he stays out of the U.K.

What is the age of consent in London since he is 17? Im sure its more flexible over their with sexuality and nudity than in the U.S. I have no say one way or the other with this, I just hope he doesnt regret his decision in the future. Although most stars dont go down in ratings with nudity but moral values may change for him throughout the years.

I have idea what nudity has to do with "morality."
