Harry Potter News: Dumbledore is Gay. Outted by JK Rowling!

  • #21
Is this thread a hoax?

J.K. Rowling does NOT lack for attention, Dumbledore gay or not. In fact, as celebrities go, she is intensely private and avoids the spotlight. She could spend every day of the rest of her life basking in the attention of Potter fans without ever making a controversial statement.

She didn't make up this piece of information on the spot to get gasps from her audience. It is clearly detailed in the history of young Dumbledore as discovered by Harry in Book 7. That nobody used the word "gay" doesn't make it any less well planned.

And as for the poster who thinks it is "rude" of Rowling to "out" Dumbledore, I can only remind her that the professor is not a real person, but the fictional creation of Ms. Rowling.
That would be me and I was just joking. My jokes fall flat at home, too.;)

Boy, can I relate to this statement!!

Squishi... is it OUR fault that others don't have the finely tuned sense of humor that you and I have?? I think not.

Jen, my first reaction was that if she wanted Dumbledore to be gay, she should have mentioned it in the books. But since then I must admit I'm not sure how she would have done so, at least not more frankly than the hints she gives in Book 7.

What hints where there? That Dumbledore had incredible fashion sense? :D

Hardly! Maybe D was supposed to be some sort of drag queen with all those long-flowing robes. But, frankly, I don't know a self-respecting drag queen who would wear anything with so little shape to it. I think the "hint" is just in Dumbledore's intense friendship with another young man.

Oh, and that he's an English headmaster. I believe they're all gay. By law.

Well this would have been more shocking back in the 70s, but even my 70 year old mother could care less.

Heh, I was laughing at the fact you said headmaster. I thought that said it all. :blushing:

I think you guys are missing one important point here tho. JK waited until the books were signed and sold, the movies were out and sold, and the millions plus money was safely tucked away before she casually tossed this out there. The series had been put to bed. Had she come out and said or even openly hinted in the book that he was gay before...she would have found that to be literary suicide on her part. This way, she sits back and laughs all the while knowing she had the very last word on her Harry Potter Series. I think it was brilliant to out him at this point. Bravo!

What can people do who are flipping out about it now? Take their books/movies/toys back and demand a refund?! LMAO

The fact of the matter is, most men who happen to be gay are men - first, and they don't do anything different in their jobs or social life to set themselves apart as being gay. So, isn't it possible that there really wasn't a point at all?

So why bother to even bring it up? Why does his sexual preference need to be a topic of discussion with a kid?

I personally thought about 2/3 of the Boy students showed homosexual tendencies.

While you have a point about there not being a point...I have no doubt JK knew when she said it that this revelation would definitely cause quite a stir.

Huh????? I personally never saw *any* homosexual "tendencies". I think it is way cool that if there was a homosexual character in Rowlings (I apologize if I spelled her name wrong) books, it was not apparent. And frankly, that is what I love. People *being* people, regardless of sexual orientation. As it should be....

I personally thought he was gay ever since this passage in the chapter entitled The Secret Riddle in Half Blood Prince:

"This younger Albus Dumbledore's long hair and beard were auburn. Having reached their side of the street, he strode off along the pavement, drawing many curious glances due to the flamboyant cut suit of plum velvet that he was wearing."

Then, when his relationship with Grindelwald was detailed in The Deathly Hallows.....well, come on folks....use your imagination!

I am an embarrassing HP fan, having read all seven books about ten times each. Rowling is brilliant and very private. She simply gave some backstory about one of her characters. Not a big deal. Albus Dumbeldore is one of the most important literary characters that has ever been created - gay or not, that will never change!
