Hayward Police searching Garrido property

  • #21
These girls disappeared in the 80's and Jaycee wasn't taken until '91 I think. You have to wonder, though, if they did murder these other girls whether they used it as a threat for Jaycee. "If you don't be a good girl we will do this to you too." :(

I pray Jaycee remembers crimes that these monsters had done in 18 years.
She can really be a big help!

I wonder if the $18,000 he bilked the old man out of paid for his new roof??

The way they lived didn't require a lot of money. No health insurance, probably no car insurance and no car payments or a mortgage. All he had to make was enough for food, utilities and gas. I'm sure he bartered for anything else he needed, like auto repair.

I just heard on Fox News there will be another presser later this
afternoon at 4:30 and Michaela Garecht's mom will be a part of that update.

The media showed a sketch, from an eyewitness in the Michaela Garecht case, side by side with the picture of Garrido from the late 70s (with long hair). But I don't think Garrido had long hair in the late 80s and 90s, did he?

Snipped from my Timeline:

Michaela Garecht, 9, Hayward, November 19, 1988 (not found)

Ilene Misheloff, 13, Dublin, Monday, January 30, 1989 (not found)

Jaycee Lee Dugard, age 11, South Lake Tahoe, June 10, 1991 (found)

Yes, they are searching for remains, or even DNA. They will use newer technology now, like infrared sensing devices. Ilene and Michaela both disappeared before Jaycee, so they would have to be dead.
Orrey said they also are looking for disturbed soil that could indicate a grave site. They are bringing in a magnetometer and ground-penetrating radar, which she does not think were used in previous searches. <snip>
Orrey said that they are working in conjunction with Contra Costa County abatement services and, depending what is found, structures at the site could be razed. "We're starting with the exterior grounds, then moving inside, and we have a contingency plan to go more in-depth. That really depends on how things go," Orrey said. more at link: http://www.contracostatimes.com/top-stories/ci_13340970?nclick_check=1

:praying: Please let them find evidence and closure for the families of these other precious girls.

From MBK--Michaela's mother, Sharon Murch, plans the Garrido property this afternoon.

"I have this little fantasy that they'll find her," she said. "There will be some kind of false room, and Michaela will be inside. ... Ever since I heard the description of Jaycee reuniting with her family, I've just had such a longing for that to happen."

I'm trying to not sob uncontrollably after reading this quote. A mother's hope. A monster's (Garrido or not) actions. I'm begging every power in the universe for justice for all the missing and their families.

Or maybe the other girls weren't as "hardy" as Jaycee and died from neglect, malnutrition, in childbirth, trying to run away, etc. So they had to keep getting new girls. YUCK!

I was sick when I heard the witness spotted Ilene getting into a sedan like Garrido's. I have a personal interest- I see her father regularly walking their family beagle. My heart breaks for them that I can't do anything...

oh, that is so sad. my heart breaks for all of these families. i hope that they one day get justice for their loved ones, be it Garrido's or someone else. i can't fathom the pain and having to wonder...i really can't see how they go on, but i am proud that they do.

I know what you mean. I go pass where Michaela was taken about twice a week. It hurts big time.

There are no current plans in place to raze structures, Hayward police Lt. Chris Orrey told reporters at a news conference, but "we are very interested in what might be behind walls, under flooring, under the ground." Authorities are prepared to "disassemble" structures if needed, she said. Evidence collected so far from the property does not show a "strong connection" to the cases, she said, but since agencies that previously searched the property were not familiar with the Misheloff and Garecht cases, "we're taking another shot at the property" to see what can be found. more at link: http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/09/15/california.kidnapping/index.html

Back on August 29th, I made the following post:

As bad as this case is, I fear it will be much worse...once they start digging up that backyard.

Unfortunately, my prediction seems to be coming true.

Police conduct new search of Garrido home
Tuesday, September 15, 2009 | 11:49 AM

By Teresa Garcia ANTIOCH, CA (KGO) -- Hayward police say Garrido's Antioch area home may hold the strongest leads yet in the 1988 disappearance of Michaela Garecht. Michaela was 9-years-old when she was abducted outside a Hayward grocery store. At the same time, Dublin police are searching Garrido's home for clues in the 1989 kidnapping of 13-year-old Ilene Misheloff.

[snip]

About 60 people have begun a search for evidence in two other high-profile East Bay cold cases of missing girls. Investigators began by walking through and observing what they see above ground while looking for any disturbed soil that could point to buried evidence or a grave site.

[snip]

The search could last through the weekend and may include using a ground-penetrating radar and if necessary, pulling down some buildings.

I think so too! There's been enough time to get preliminary results from the bone fragment. I'm sure the authorities know by now if that bone fragment is old and belonged to a native American, or from a more recent person.

I'm sure that LE wouldn't have 60 people investigating those two properties unless there was some evidence to suggest another victim being there.

I wonder..............do you suppose that Jaycee provided LE with some information that, in addition to the bone fragment, has led to further investigation?

I was wondering the same thing or maybe NG is giving up some info!!!!

I would say that most definitely Jaycee has had a lot to do with what they are searching for. She had many years to "play" in the backyard and may have seen things that were insignificant to her then. I know I dug around constantly in my yard growing up, making pools for my Barbies, looking for treasures, etc. She also may have overheard a great deal too and was maybe threatened if she did stumble across something.
