Heart transplant recipient dies same way donor did -- suicide

  • #21
While reading the story all I could think is, what are the odds? What are the odds that she meets this second man that received her husbands heart? What are the odds they would marry. What are the odds that he would die the same way. My instinct tells me that that is just TO man coincidences, but i've been wrong before ( only a couple of times :) ) and if she had nothing to do with this and no knowledge of it then shame on him for putting her through this again.

He wrote the family to thank them for the heart, that's how he met the widow, apparently.

But wouldn't the insurance company refuse to pay out because of the suicide?

Not necessarily, depends on how long he had policy. When my DH & myself took out our policies in California several years ago, our policy states insurance has to be in effect for 2 years, then suicide is covered. I think it varies state to state. I would believe this man 69 years old would have had insurance for awhile. IMO

Taximom...I don't know if you should start beating yourself up just yet (or ever). :hand: There seems to be quite a bit more to this story than we know.

There are some interesting quotes on this link:

http://www2.islandpacket.com/index.php?q=the_story_behind_the_story

"You chose to omit the facts because you wanted to sell newspapers and messy details like leaving his wife who stood by him during the illness and transplant would have messed up the "commerecial appeal"

Sounds like he had cancer before he hooked up with this woman...and left his wife

"A lot of talk has been directed at the fact that Sonny was married when he started seeing Cheryl, however, it also needs to be mentioned that Cheryl had already remarried when she and Sonny started seeing each other. I think the "reeling" part in the initial article was exaggerated a bit. That was Cheryl's 3rd marriage. That marriage ended in divorce and then at some point after that she married another man. So things were not as great as it sounded. Sonny is her 5th husband."

5th Husband??? :waitasec:

Haha....Deanws...we posted at the same time! Yep...I was thinking along the same lines when I saw "5th husband" :waitasec:

And I wonder too, if she is just a beast to live with, and this man committed suicide because he felt he had made a horrible mistake and couldn't go back

I found these interesting...

"We knew this man just casually and there was much speculation about the cause of death. Apparently though, the Georgia Bureau of Investigations has ruled it a suicide. I don’t think the wife has spoken to any reporters about this. At least, I haven’t seen anything. Sonny was her 5th husband I have heard. Since the transplant he has beaten cancer too and was doing well. He lived on Hilton Head for years but since leaving his wife of many years and marrying this one, he has lived in Georgia. He had many friends on the island and most of them do not believe he committed suicide."

:waitasec:

"i just got off of the phone with a woman from people magazine. she picked up this story because it is unusal. she wanted to talk to my bf. i told her he was sleeping, as he works the night shift. she asked me if i knew cheryl. i didn’t, but my bf of 3 yrs was married to her! my bf has talked to me plenty of times about that woman. she was his second wife. he was married for 10-12 yrs before her. he said it was her idea to get married. he said that cheryl was really nice and sweet for the first year, but after a year, she changed. she was mean and manipulative. he said she’s one of them ‘con artist women’! she even threw a whole thanksgiving turkey at his head!! she cheated on him with sonny graham. he was a wealthy older man that could do alot more for her than he could. my bf has been divorced from cheryl for about 5 yrs. wow. crazy story. glad my bf wasn’t wealthy enough for her!! the woman from people magazine is looking into the story and cheryl’s past relationships. she said, ‘wouldn’t it be crazy if it turned out to be a black widow story?’ yes… it would!"

Makes one wonder if Sonny's suicide was really a suicide...hmmm

This part has me totally ROFL. Can't you just hear the ex-husband saying:
"she’s one of them ‘con artist women’!" (In that "hey vern" kinda voice)
LOL

This could be another Black Widow case....

I was also thinking that life insurance might be kind of hard to come by if you've had a heart transplant. I guess you could pay a lot for it and get it, but I don't think it would be cheap. IMO Does anyone know?

Read my post #22, it's possible at his age that he had life insurance for quite awhile he was 69 years old, he would have to obtained policy before transplant surgery. Still think there's more to this story, but it will come out!!

Cheryl was married to a man named Terry Cottle who committed suicide. His heart was given to Sonny Graham. Then, Cheryl later married Sonny.

It's legal...

If that happened in a movie you wouldn't believe it. That's why I love non-fiction.

The paper said that he shot himself in the neck. I would like to know if the first husband that "shot himself" did it in the neck also. If that was the case, I am thinking it was murder. As so many of you have said, what are the odds? I am wondering if the police dept. there is small and inexperienced and that is why she is getting away with this.

I'd sure like to know if first suicide was a gunshot to the neck also! Why would he commit suicide if he'd beaten cancer or did the cancer return? I have a lot of questions, wish I could talk to wife!! Ya know I'm going to feel bad, if this turns out to nothing..
