ABC reporting the trial started today for Alexandria Duval in the murder of her twin, Anastasia. Trial is in Maui, Hawaii. Alexandria is being charged with 2nd degree murder. She waived her rights to a trial by jury and will be tried by the Judge.

I read some of the comments on one of the articles posted earlier today. I was surprised how many people think she's just being railroaded. I mean, I'm not altogether convinced either way but I can see why she was charged.

The judge is expected to reach a verdict this week. A Maui resident testified that while the women were passing him on the highway he could see them arguing, but couldn't hear anything but the women looked angry. He said he had to swerve out of their way.

Duval isn't expected to testify, her attorney said.

Regardless of how the trial ends up, this woman’s life story does not appear it is going to end well. Sad story all around. It sounds like alcohol abuse played a big role in their overall decline.

I'm leaning towards accident, too Niner. When someone is pulling your hair when you are driving- that could cause an accident.
I'm thinking all sisters may get mad at each other, especially identical sisters, who may be very close and work together all day, but they wouldn't kill them, JMO right now. :thinking:..
I haven't watch all the Ytubes yet tho'.

"I could see a pair of arms from elbows to hands yanking the head of the driver. The driver's head was being pulled to the side," said witness Lawrence Lau, according to CBS affiliate KGMB.

Deputy prosecutor Emlyn Higa said that the evidence will show that before the crash, there was no braking, hard acceleration and a hard left turn towards the cliff. Bervar, however, says tire marks show the car didn't take a sudden left turn, but ran off the road...

Personally, I think it was an accident. How would Alexandria know that she would survive a crash like that??

My thoughts are this was either a weird and botched murder suicide or a negligent accident, although they'd both be negligent in account of the fighting. It seems they stopped and started a couple times iirc and they bother me... She should have remained stopped while fighting.

I don't feel strongly either way.

Woman acquitted of murder in crash that killed twin sister

"Judge Peter Cahill found Alexandria Duval not guilty of second degree murder in the death of her twin Anastasia following a trial that began Monday. Alexandria Duval opted to have a judge instead of a jury decide the case.

"I'm disappointed," Maui County Prosecuting Attorney J.D. Kim said after the verdict, according to the Associated Press. "The facts clearly show it was at least reckless behavior."

Alexandria Duval left the courtroom without commenting, The Maui News reported.

Her defense attorney, Birney Bervar, told the newspaper, "It's been an extremely emotional ordeal for her. You can't imagine losing your twin sister in that kind of catastrophic, tragic accident, then being charged with causing the death of your sister, which she didn't. She's extremely relieved."..."
