Bradford T. Turek
Turek, circa 2004
Turek, a resident of Cincinnati, Ohio, was on vacation in Hawaii at the time of his disappearance. On January 23, 2004, he checked into a hotel and rented a white 2004 Jeep MPVH on the island of Maui. The next day, the Jeep was found abandoned in the hotel parking lot. Several of his personal items were found sunk in the hotel pond.
On January 25, it is believed he flew to the island of Kauai, where he may have rented another Jeep and then hiked into Hanakapi'ai in Hāʻena State Park. The Jeep was located a few days later on January 27, parked on the North Shore Trail near the Kalalau Bridge and Ke'e Beach.
Despite extensive searches of his last known whereabouts, Turek was not found. His initials were found carved in a bamboo tree in Hanakapi'ai near an abandoned coffee mill, and a t-shirt from Duke University, which he attended, was found submerged in Hanakapi'ai Stream. Turek's family members, however, do not believe the shirt belonged to him.
It is speculated that he fell into Hanakapi'ai Stream and drowned, and his body was swept out to sea. He has never been located, nor has his body been recovered.
