Weeks later, his vehicle was located, unattended, near Kaumoku Street, but Porter was never found.

Mr. Porter was last seen almost 44 years ago on 11/3/1976, in the late afternoon at his mother’s home in Kāneʻohe. One source states that his white ‘65 Volkswagen Beetle was parked at his mother’s home at 8:00am the following day but disappeared later that morning. Later that month on 11/26 the vehicle was found near Kaumoku Street at Mariners Ridge. Neighbors noticed it had been parked there sometime between November 7-11. Authorities found Porter’s fins in the trunk but no fingerprints indicating it had been wiped clean. Over 200 National Guard soldiers and volunteers searched the area and even used Porter’s Labrador in the search but found no traces of him. A few leads began to trickle in as time went on,
After his disappearance, a friend of Porter’s was in a Kailua bar and overheard a few men talking about David Porter and detailing how they killed him. After authorities failed to report back any findings on this lead, the family hired a private detective who learned one of the men involved had a lengthy criminal record. Another friend recalled Porter saying he was going to do a drug deal in Nuʻuanu involving the son of a prominent local figure, potentially a doctor.
The Porter family believes David is a victim of foul play as he would never leave his dog behind and his bank account remains untouched. They hope someone will have the compassion to come forward with information. David’s nickname is Boogie and he is described as a happy-go-lucky, friendly waterman, bodybuilder, and was close to his family at the time of his disappearance.
