The skeletal remains were found by a hiker off a trail on a difficult to reach ridge line in the Koolau Mountains above Waokanaka Street in Nuuanu Valley. The remains were there probably a year or more.

He had been dead at least several years and had severe arthritis in his back and legs. This describes him as “probably Caucasian or part Caucasian”.

Clothing: Navy blue Levis Panatela (size 34/36), White boxer type undershorts (size 34), Red collared LA Times shirt with blue shoulders and white trim, Brown socks, Blue (and white, according to the article) athletic shoes (size 12).

Body Hair Description: Few individual dark hairs (appear brown) measuring less than 1" in length were found with the remains

Bumping this to put this on people’s radar for missing person reports in all 50 states and even out of country. Between the 50s and 80s there were a TON of people flowing in and out of Hawaii and I wouldn’t be surprised if this has been unsolved because it was a visitor or resident that didn’t tell anyone he was in Hawaii and there’s minimal documentation. I kind of feel like if there’s a missing man in this range, it’s worth sending in even if they lived really far. It’s also even worth reporting a person if they disappeared years before this doe was deceased, people love finding weird ways to live off the grid in Hawaii so it’s not impossible that he was living there for years, even decades.

I also think it would be interesting to see if there’s any chance of a military background that precede the 80s but they decided to stay (or was even currently active duty, I’m not sure if military missing person records are even accessible that could be an issue in solving this). Hawaii has had an insanely long history of military occupation and there are a ton of European descendants here solely for this reason. And as a person that grew up in Hawaii, the military men NEVER seemed willing to be cautious around hikes or the beaches.
