HI HI - Honolulu, Fem UP10157, 2-4, severed fingers in dumpster, Feb'12

It's interesting that there's no thumbs. And I think it was mentioned earlier that there were two full fingers found and four partial fingers?

If this child is alive, she still has both thumbs. She could just be missing part of four fingers as well.

Back on this thread. Someone earlier on suggested that this could've been a case of grave robbing where the fingers were stolen for some sort of religious ritual, and I honestly feel like that's the most likely scenario.

If it's not the case... The remains of this girl, age 2-6, was found in Honolulu two years after the fingers were. NamUs says they recovered a complete/near complete skeleton... would she still be considered 'near complete' if some of her fingers were missing? The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs)

This is terrifying. The poor child. I didn't see anywhere where they stated if the fingers had been severed? This could clarify if they were from a grave robbery or not. If they were severed I doubt a grave robbery.

I mean, they did state that the girl could still be alive, but they also stated that the fingers were in bad condition. So it sounds like it can't be ruled out that they were severed when she was alive, although it probably can't be determined if the fingers were removed postmortem or not based on the condition of the remains.

EWWWWW! What kind of sick minded clump of cells would do that?! I doubt that her fingers were amputated for medical reasons. It takes a lot to amputate six fingers! I have a partial index finger amputation (the fingertip to first knuckle) because of burns I suffered on my arms and chest at 2 years old. But that was like 15 years ago. Too many fingers, unless she had gangrene or something but it doesn’t mention anything about the girl having gangrene. This little girl could’ve easily bled to death without proper medical attention! Surely someone had done that to her. Poor girl. I wouldn’t sleep if I found fingers in a dumpster.

Can’t be a coincidence I feel like. I feel like the fingers probably belonged to this little girl. Do they have DNA from either?

DNA will solve the case, I hope.

It could be a case of child abuse - but it would be unlikely they'd keep the fingers in that case, IMO.
It could be the case of found/stolen remains - nobody cut the fingers off, had been decomposed loose.
It could be the case of an (old) accident - only fingers and no thumbs cut off made me think of an accident with a saw. This is how these accidents happen here to middle aged men. If different saws are used for whatever in Hawaii (I assume they are) and if the person using the saw had a kid, who was a a tad bit too curious, I can see that happening. The fingers could have been kept for many reasons in that case (maybe initially for the hopes they could be re-attached at the hospital).
It could be the case of murder and dismemberment and creepy spreading of remains (do thumbs help to ID a toddler more than other fingers or how does fingerprinting work over there?). But I don't think that's too likely either.
