My wife was asking me the same questions. It seems strange that he would have just deleted his side of the texts. Possibly he never responded to any of those three texts. The thing that I dont understand is that we are seeing three texts. 1. Hot water heater? 2. ......cools down and 3. Mary. It could just be the reporter making a mistake but she states that the last text jeff sent was to his nephew stating he was going to cools down. But that is not actually the last text sent from what we are looking at. There was one after that. The one that says Mary.

Ah I am so confused. I watch Hawaii Five O and Mcgarret and Danno always seem to find the answers. Why could real life not be so simple.

Every day several times throughout the day, more times than I can count, I am asking myself "what happened to you Jeff. Damnit give us some clues."

I appreciate the fact that even with the "zero" amount of information we are receiving from the press that members on this site are still trying to post up their thoughts on some of the questions that are being asked.

I had asked Jeff's mom a couple questions through Facebook chat about how she was doing and just giving her my support. Then I sent her a message yesterday asking if there had been anymore updates. Explaining I was not seeing anything in the press and I was hoping that the private investigators were still turning over new clues and leads that I was just not hearing about. I dont want the investigation to stall and it looks like it has from my end. I told her I did not want any details but if she could at least let me know if there was still progress being made. She saw my question but never answered it. So really I am left in the dark and I dont have the heart to ask her again since she did not respond the first time. I cant imagine the emotions she is feeling and I just dont want to bother her. So I am in this forum airing out my questions, emotions and feelings in these posts. I appreciate everyone taking their time to discuss. This may sound silly or corny but I had not realized until now how much this site has actually helped me to get through each day.

This is a difficult time for you, I am sorry.

I am having a hard time with all of the silence
It always seems to me (JMO) that the more press coverage, the better
Keep the word out
People forget quickly

I can not find an explanation for the texts.
If responses were deleted.. why?
I am not all that savy... can you delete only your response from a text conversation?
I guess you can , as we are seeing JM's texts only
It sounds like "Mary" may have been in answer to something

I am hoping the PI is following important leads
Maybe Mother has been asked to remain silent?

Hoping to learn more

Can anyone tell what kind of phone these texts were shown on by the format of the texts? I know my old phone had an option to delete sent texts, texts received, or both. But this was an old Verizon flip phone from years ago. Jeff had an old pickup. Makes me think he wasn't that worried about having the newest, up to date, everything. Why hasn't LE given the description of Jeff's phone in case someone finds one??

Is there tracking to a cell phone tower with texts?
If you had 2 phones in your possession and were texting from one to another at the same location, could that be traced?

My newish phone may have that capability too:blushing:

I don't see a reason to keep texts sent to me but delete my responses....

Water heater pic: hotheaded person (kind of an inside joke between the nephew and his friends ... "My uncle is always yelling at me,"-type of thing)???
"Too cools down": No longer mad (don't have to worry about him yelling at me/us now ... ever ...???

This is a nephew by marriage. I wonder how long he's known JM.

Sorry ... running out of ideas & completely over-analyzing :-0! This case really concerns me greatly because of his child being so young (with another on the way very soon). No data to back up, and, very much generally speaking, but it seems that missing persons cases that take place in HI seem to drag on, too ....

This is a nephew by marriage. I wonder how long he's known JM.

Same thing I was wondering. In a post from his mom she had mentioned that the niece and nephew were living with Jeff. I could not figure out if she meant currently or previously. If it is currently that it is even more strange that he would not have told Jeff's wife that he showed up and Jeff was nowhere to be found. Here are my few thoughts on the nephew.

The statements below are all based on the partial facts that we have received. So the statements are in no way 100 percent accurate or true, it is just what I see from what the facts we have.

1. Other than Jeff's wife, the nephew is the only one that new Jeff was going to be in that lcoation because Jeff called him help for that morning he disappeared.

2. Supposedly nephew showed up at Jeff's truck and could not find Jeff and so just left and went about his day not even wondering or questioning. That is very strange.

3. At one point in time, either currently or recently, Jeff;s niece and nephew are or were living with Jeff at his house. This opens up the questions about why not living there anymore if they are not. Or if they are living there why would nephew not had told Mary that he cold not find Jeff when he went to look.

4. Nephew did not seem very upset in news interview.

5. In this article Jeff's business partner discusses how the truck was almost hidden, stating it was in an area that nobody would even think of looking unless they knew the owner was down there working on his property. So to me that tells me that his business partner does not feel it was someone just who just happened to bump into Jeff on the property, it was someone who knew he was going to be there.

It is a bad thing to point fingers when I dont have all the facts so I want to make the statement that I am not accusing the nephew of doing it, I do not have enough facts, but I am stating that his actions seem to be worth taking a closer look at.

Hey dave, if this is the dave I think it is. If you look up at my user name, you can guess who this is. I am spending my days cussing him and worrying. The girls are fine, they are more worried for nana. I am reading these ideas that others in the forum are theorizing on. However, they can rest assured that it is NOT my niece or her husband that had anything to do with Jeff's disappearance. Those are two deeply religious, intellegent, stand up type kids. They can easily be ruled out. Caitlyn is friends with Jason and does not believe he killed her father. I want to know if they looked into this business partner? If things were not going so well with the business, as I have been told, then maybe there was a confrontation?

If the boots came back, where's the hat? They say he was never without the hat, which boggles my mind as I never knew him to be the type.

Welcome Lee1968! Sounds like you have some familiarity with Jeffrey. I'm confused by the above, do you mean you don't think he's type to always wear a hat? Who are the "they" who say he always did?

Yes. I am very familiar with Jeff. I read in an interview with someone from the community that knew him that he never went into the water. He used to surf in my time. He said he always wore his trademark cowboy hat, levis and boots. I never seen anything from that discription on him before. But, people change their persona often. My point is where is said hat if the boots came back as if my magic?

sorry. as if by magic

Welcome and aloha, Lee!

Yes, the boots do seem to have magically appeared. And very good question about the cowboy hat. If he were in the water, the hat would have floated to shore, right? If I were going to go into the ocean and took the time to remove my boots then surely I would have taken off my hat, too.

I assumed Jeff was the sole owner of the company. He had a partner, huh? Jobs are hard to come by on this island. Solar and electrical have job security. Plumbing, not so much?

Lee or Dave, do you know if the nephew was living with Jeff now or in the last 4/5 months?

  • #76
Im not sure. Dave and I dont live in Hawaii. I only know that they lived with him after they got married and were settling in. from what I understand, it was supposed to be temporary not permanent. After all, Jeff has a growing family, and they are newlyweds. They are not involved. I would bet my life on that. But maybe someone can help me understand something since I am not there to see for myself. How big of an area are we talking about? What is the make up of the people in that area? What type of criminal element? Does someone just go missing often? Is it open space or overgrown?

I read an article that interviewed someone they said was his partner who stated that jeff had a happy family, etc.

The Big Island is just that...BIG. There is a meth problem in the area he went missing but nothing was taken.
When I was out there roaming around I asked why I saw a tent set up in the middle of a field. The person I talked to said people that own property often stake tents and take turns spending the night out there to protect their property. I should have delve farther into that. If it is just land, what are they protecting?? Yes, for the population we have had our fair share of missing people, especially on Maui. There is open space only if you continually keep your land cleared. It really is an overgrown jungle on the east side.

  • #79
Oh. Ok. Its hard to sit here and wonder when you cant visualize the area he was in.

  • #80
It does make you wonder if they are protecting the land from vagrants. I cant really get my head around this. Maybe he just took off. Maybe he got mad, threw his shoes because they were muddy or wet, (sensitive feet from childhood surgery) got a pair of shoes out of the car and took a walk to cool down. The only thing thaat I cant see him doing in that scenario is letting his mother get this upset.
