That is certainly possible. I shared this back on the first of the thread but for those that didn't read it... When I was there at the Point there were a couple of people sitting under a tent at the side of the road not far from the dead end gated community. They had a flyer of Jeff up. I thought they were with the search but they said they weren't but were asked if they could put up a flyer. Not sure why they were there but there is a lot of industrial type buildings off the road behind them. In talking to the woman there, her first thought was it had something to do with all the meth activity in the area. At the time I thought Jeff could have been an innocent target for someone on meth.
She didn't know Jeff so I believe that was her thought as well. But now, after hearing from those that knew him, that may very well have been his meeting place. 20 acres would require a lot of clearing tools, preferably a tractor with a mower attached, not hand tools.

I wondered that myself....clear 20 acres with hand tools? I thought it was dense there. I need you all to understand that Jeff NEVER did yard work. We actually had to pay someone to mow a small patch of grass when we lived in Huntington Beach. The whold job took the lawn guy like 15 mins tops.

And, yes, I am living a safe and happy life. I remarried pretty early on and my husband loves and cherishes me and our girls. They are happy and healthy and my oldest is newly married. Thank you everyone for your hopes and concerns on that score. I just want to find him.

Agreed. I honestly dont care whether he was out there to clear the land, give a church sermon, or to buy meth. I just want to find him or what happened to him. No matter he was still my friend. The silence is what is killing it for all of us commenting on here. The reason there is so much silence is that anybody doing drugs is not going to want to talk to the cops or media. It is going to be tough to get any answers if that is the case.

The meth thing rings true in my heart. but I also want to know about this political race thing. Apparently Mary took a car to a repair shop that was owned by the opponents family. Her car came out allegedly ripped off of expensive rims and car parts. It seems shady to me as well. Does anyone elses head hurt too?

Nor do I
But sometimes the devil is in the details
Every fact can lead to another
If he was clearing land, then there is nothing to discuss about his reason for being there.
If he was meeting someone, that changes everything

In the end, if there is an end, and the truth comes out, the reasons won't be important
Until the truth comes out, every detail is important

The Devil is in the details and I think that devil is holding a pipe.
That's why there are no "details". I am glad that at least here people are being honest.
I don't care what Jeff was into. Only finding him. The grass is talker than the truck. Hand clippers wouldn't be a good option. A gass powered weed hacker is more like it. Maybe it was in the truck bed??
I think maybe Jeff owed a dealer money. Looking at what has been said.
Mary ..." I think he is in the water "
I would bet Mary heard the dealer threaten Jeff.
"Pay or I'll toss your dead body in the ocean"
Something like that. Not sure why she wouldn't come clean on that and finger the party.
Just a "vague" my heart it's in my heart type statement.
I think she clearly knows more. She looks stoned in that picture in that news story. Her eyes are all puffy. Classic stoner look.

This would explain the silence about Jeff's days and (day) if this event.
I still find the silence VERY STRANGE.

She has two little incentives to not put herself in jeopardy, and also to not incriminate herself. No mother wants their kids taken away from them by authorities, or to be taken away from their children by a criminal.

I have never did meth before. Do you guys think that it would have a strong enough pull on you that you would be willing to lose the thread of your business and people would be able to steal from you? Or that you would put the custody of your children in jeopardy? Would you secret money away to funnel towards it? Or that you may have had a problem before and still owed money all this time later? Like a few years later?

I am not sure at all about meth
I really know very little
Going to research it

Long term effects of methamphetamine use may include:

addiction
psychosis, including:
paranoia
hallucinations
repetitive motor activity
changes in brain structure and function
memory loss
aggressive or violent behavior
mood disturbances
severe dental problems
weight loss

Personally I think an addiction takes over every part of a persons life
An addict has lost control

This one hits close to home. Just read the whole thread. Several random thoughts. I am not sure if there is even a trailing dig on the island and that is very different from a police k9. There is no way you are going to clear 20 acres with anything less than a very large bulldozer out there; hand tools, No way. Yes, meth can make you do things you never normally would. I don't think the cell towers are close enough to give a pinpoint accuracy such as Kaumana caves. For that kind of accuracy you need a lot off towers to triangulate. Generally you just get a pie piece and have to go from there. So am I to read that the boots were not there one day, but were the next? In terms of being found, it is a jungle and there are more nooks, crannies, caves and what not than you can imagine. Very easy to hide a body without likelihood of it being found. There is a drug problem for sure, property crime because of it, but most of the violent crime is not random or strangers (with the exception of being robbed for drug money). And yes, that is kept quiet cuz tourism is the bread and butter.

from what I understand, the boots were not there until tues. Alot of people searching the very area and didnt come across them. Then they were just there. I personally know that Jeff was a fight to the death guy, even in simple scuffles. Like a pit bull or irish berserker. If you didnt find his blood, the attackers blood, blood of innocent bystanders, random wildlife that got in the way...whatever....he wasn't assaulted there. It's a staged scene. I suspect that someone he trusted sent him to meet with people, whether it was about a fake plumbing job or, if what is been said about meth is in play here, sent to meet with the threatening drug dealer. He was killed then somewhere else, quietly and unsuspectingly. Maybe even given something to drink that knocked him out. Where's the hat? If he always wore cowboy boots and a hat, (still trying to wrap my head around that concept) why the boots walk back and not the hat? Start looking for who's wearing his hat. He had bad feet and his shoes wore funny. Someone wouldnt keep that. But a hat?

I agree wholeheartedly. Jeff was not going"easy".

Rubio. My children say that you have met them once when they came to visit Jeff at Dana Point. Do you remember two girls with Jeff? I knew then that there was going on there with Jeff and Mary because the girls told me bits and pieces. But they were too young to be able to really tell me then. I think they were like 8 and 10 yrs old. I'm not sure.

  • #236
Yes I remember them. I met them. It saddens me to write this stuff.
Jeff and I had lots of fun. I still miss him. It must be terrible for them. I know it's seems I'm being unfair to those around him. I liked Jeff a lot. It tore me up to watch him go down and then leave.
I had hoped he would fight his way out of that ****. I blame Mary for it. But that should odvious from my posts.

I miss the Jeff I knew. She took him out. He should have got rid of her and gone surfing.
I told him that.

You guys are killing me. It's not often there are close friends and relatives here to post. You are humanizing the story... I lost my dad at a young age and I'm so sorry the girls have to go through this. My thoughts and heart are with you and the girls as well as the friends. I so wish we could come up with answers and closure for you all.

Sorry if I'm not doing this right. I've never been on a site like this. I can't help it if we know him. I just want the answer. It's just that dav7070 and I really will try anything to figure out what happened. I'm not content to just let him go to protect a fairytale. I, my husband and the girls, want to know.

You are doing fine. It's just a heart breaking story that touches us all. :)

With no tools in the truck or a bulldozer on site, Jeff was not there to clear property. He was there for another reason and those who know what it is are covering for that.

He may have owed a meth dealer a lot of money and it was time to pay. Those guys don't play nice when they are owed money and they don't get it.

I've known a few meth addicts in my life and they will do anything, give up anything in pursuit of their drug.

I think because of that Jeff let his guard down and trusted someone he probably knew better than to trust. Lee is right, the scene is staged. To me, those boots are a message. I think they were a statement that Jeff won't need them anymore.

The island is vast, with so much vegetation and cliff areas as well as the ocean, that locating a body is an almost impossible task, I'm sorry to say. To me it's obvious he has passed. Sorry.

My heart goes out to his family, the people who love him and who he meant so much to.

There is a lot of white noise in this case, things that at a glance might look to be the road to follow, but I think it's a lot simpler than that. Drugs involved, drug dealers involved, drug money involved. Now someone has disappeared. I doubt this has anything to do with his employees and whether or not they had their fingers in the till. I mean all of them?? C'mon. I don't think so. IMO, JMO, IME.
