The defendant, Eric Thompson, is the victim’s lover's husband. He is accused of entering the victim's office wearing a hat and sunglasses and shooting the victim four times in the face. Prosecutors claim the defendant left his hat at the scene.

The defense attorney is attacking the evidence collected at the crime scene as well as the police work.

The second trial day of murder suspect Eric Thompson had graphic crime scene images. The defense brought up that the first officer to arrive at the murder scene turned off his body camera for 10 min. And an officer that personally knew the victim was on scene. His presence was left off the report.

A digital forensics expert provided testimony last week about retrieving data from JT's iPhone 11. The suspect's wife sent around 5610 Instagram messages to JT. The defense pointed out that another woman was also exchanging texts with JT.

A Chevy Silverado truck was seen in the area. Police were able to narrow down to the suspect because he was the only owner of such a vehicle who had anything to do with the murder victim.

ET's wife had originally went to JT in hopes of getting help with infertility. JT was an accupuncturist.

A detective took the stand to explain how investigators narrowed the search to the accused. There is footage from ET's neighbor's camera that shows his white Chevy truck leaving ET's residence the evening of the murder. DNA recovered from the hat found at the crime scene does not exclude him. Items were recovered that investigators believe were evidence that ET had been attempting to burn.

Two men took the stand to testify that their significant others had affairs with JT. DeMarco (whose wife had an affair with JT and was his accupuncture patient) eventually had a cordial relationship with JT and JT acted as a father-figure to his kids even after the man's ex-wife and JT split. The other man, Fujita, whose significant other had an affair with JT, was clearly irritated that he had to take the stand and explained that he "literally had nothing to do with this." Both men stated they did not kill JT and had moved on after their significant others had cheated.

The article includes commentary from attorney Megan Kau who says that the prosecution is trying to show that these men did not have the inclination to harm JT.

"Tokuhara “had a track record of cheating,” including < >

Jilted women ghosted by Tokuhara would have had the same motive, < > the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported.

Hayakawa said < > Tokuhara was a gambler and nearly $4,000 in cash was found next to his body in his office. [Somehow makes Defendant innocent?]

Thompson [the Defendant] and his wife [that cheated with the acupuncturist, Tokuhara] were high school sweethearts.

Prosecutors theory RE: Motive: Tokuhara ruined the couple's image of a perfect life and that's why Thompson killed him.

Both of the other witnesses whose partners had affairs with Tokuhara that testified today have long since moved on and one has even married. It's not about them. It's about Eric Thompson shooting 4 fatal shots into Tokuhara's face. Soon, ET's children will have a father in jail for murdering their mom's lover -- and to think he'd be fatalistically upset about his wife having an adulterous affair. JMOO

The DNA evidence at the scene and the vehicle description are the strongest pieces of evidence in this case IMO.

The $4000 cash next to JT's body is puzzling for me. Was he accepting cash payments for the accupuncture and just not taking it to the bank?

Thank you for graciously pointing out the money again. $4000 is near the body. There are no casinos, thankfully, in Hawaii. Gambling is illegal in Utah and Hawaii

Oh, no! There are casinos in Hawaii. When did that happen? Well, there it is. He had cash on or about his person, hence the Defense feels it stems from his gambling habit by perhaps implying he owes gambling debts?

Is none of this trial being televised/recorded? I've watched a couple of trials out of Hawaii on YT.

Court temporarily stopped bc Tokuhara's folks in the gallery were understandably upset over the graphic nature of the evidence.

JULY 14, 2023

Ms Thompson and Tokuhara exchanged 5600 texts within a month.

Apparently, Eric doesn't have an alibi? The truck's license plate though.

“Is that your truck?” asked Hayakawa.
“No,” said Thompson.
“Is that your license plate? Were you at any time in Waipahu on January 12, 2022?” asked Hayakawa.
“No,” said Thompson

The prosecutor will cross examine Thompson on Friday, July 28.

Without knowing much about the legality of the question..I am eager to know how ET will answer "Where were you on January 12, 2022?"
(The prosecution will surely ask this, no?)

"Thompson allegedly walked into Tokuhara Acupuncture and Healthcare about 6:15 p.m. on Jan. 12.

Investigators say security cameras show the 34-year-old was inside the business for just 45 seconds. Detectives believe Thompson quickly fired three shots from a .22-caliber gun he had stashed in a shopping bag he was carrying and fled."

Apparently, he carried the firearm inside of a shopping bag but dropped his baseball hat in the street after the crime. Hence, I don't think he has a viable alibi that I could locate online. But, that license plate is not his unless the Prosecutor knows differently.

ET explains how he discovered the affair

Testimony re: alleged addiction to psychics

July 29, 2023 Shows post marital agreement of the couple

Has anyone ever heard of a post-marital agreement such as this one? ET would get custody of the children should the couple ever get divorced. Was this just a way to let the wife know not to ever do something like this again?
