Link uncovered between deadly Aiea shooting and missing child case from 2021

Neighbors and sources say the shooting happened outside a home connected to the otherwise unrelated disappearance of an 18-month-old girl.

Honolulu police say Leroy Rodrigues, 33, was taken into custody for the shooting. Arrest records show he’s being held on suspicion of second-degree murder.

It appears the suspect is related to another man behind bars for a high-profile child abuse death.

Neighbors and sources told Hawaii News Now the home where Leroy Rodrigues was arrested is the same one where Travis Rodrigues, 43, lived. He was indicted for murder in the death of his 18-month-old daughter, Kytana Ancog, who was last seen in January 2021 when she was dropped off at the residence.

Police said Travis Rodrigues confessed to beating and shaking his daughter to death. Her body was never found. It’s unclear whether and how Travis and Leroy Rodrigues are related.

How heartbreaking. Imo. I'm wondering if they have cell phone evidence or video surveillance of some sort that points to an "incident" occurring during that time.

Hello, it’s been a while since I have posted on websleuths. But, I remember reading this case, and as I recall, someone stopped by Travis’ place, female I believe, and saw Kyrana in bad shape. I think after she died the other male that was arrested was involved with disposing of the body. Hope I can say this without getting in trouble.

Kytana Ancog – The Charley Project

• Distinguishing CharacteristicsBiracial (Asian/Caucasian/Pacific Islander) female. Brown hair, brown eyes. Kytana is of Caucasian, Filipino and Japanese descent. Her ears are pierced.

Details of Disappearance​

Kytana was last seen on January 31, 2021, when her mother dropped her off at the home of her father, Travis Rodrigues, on Kaulainahee Place in Aiea, Hawaii. A missing persons report was filed on February 10 after Rodrigues did not return the child and her mother was unable to locate her.

A photo of Rodrigues is posted with this case summary. He has been charged with second-degree murder in his daughter's disappearance. Investigators believe she died on February 4.

According to one witness, Rodrigues appeared to be high on crystal methamphetamine and was seen slapping, shaking, kicking and cursing at Kytana. The abuse left her bruised and bleeding, and Rodrigues told the witness the blood was actually chocolate and that Kytana had hurt herself when she fell in the shower. He also tried to give Kytana a meth pipe, claiming she liked it.

The witness left the residence at this point and returned the next day, and saw Kytana lying in a chair. She was covered with a blanket, but the witness noticed she appeared more bruised than before and was "dangling as if lifeless." In later statements to police, Rodrigues admitted he squeezed Kytana against his chest until she lost consciousness and appeared to be dead.

He wrapped her body in a bedsheet, put it in a duffel bag and got a ride, with the bag, from a friend, Scott Michael Carter. A photo of of Carter is posted with this case summary. He told Rodrigues he would "take care of" the remains. He was charged with first-degree hindering prosecution in the case, but in September 2022, a week before his scheduled trial, the charges were dismissed and he was released from jail. Charges could be re-filed against him in the future.

Rodrigues is awaiting trial in the case. Kytana's body has never been located, but foul play is suspected in her case due to the circumstances involved.
