Police: 15-year-old girl abducted from Hawaii Island beach found safe; suspect in custody

WAIKOLOA (HawaiiNewsNow/Gray News) - An AMBER alert has been issued Friday evening for a missing 15-year-old girl believed to be abducted from a beach on Hawaii Island.

Hawaii Island Police said MD was last seen on the south side of Anaehoomalu Bay near Waikoloa Beach Drive at approximately 1:30 p.m.

Officials said she was last seen wearing a black bikini top and floral print bottoms.

MD is 5 feet 3 inches, weighing 120 pounds with brown shoulder-length hair and a tan freckled complexion.

Investigators said she may be in the company of a local male described as being approximately 45-60 years old, 5 feet 10 inches tall with an average build, and bareback wearing gray shorts.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (808) 961-8300.

If MD is seen, contact police immediately at 911.

Police seeking missing Big Island teen believed to be in danger

PUAKO, Hawaii (KITV4) -- Hawaii Police are seeking the public's help in locating a missing girl last seen Friday afternoon in the Waikoloa area.
15-year-old MD was last seen on the south side of Anaehoomalu Bay on September 16, 2022 between 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

She is 5'3" tall, weighs 120 pounds with brown, shoulder-length hair and has a freckled complexion. She was last seen wearing a black bikini top with a floral bottom.

If she is seen, please call police at 911 immediately.

MD's cousin, Mahana Cumiford, said MD had been at the beach with her boyfriend and mother.

"It seemed as soon as the mom left this guy must've been stalking her from the bushes or something because he came out, blindfolded her boyfriend, held my cousin at knifepoint and had her tie her boyfriend up," said Cumiford. "He had put something in the boyfriend's mouth to drug him and when he had woken up my cousin was gone."

Cumiford said MD's boyfriend is shaken up, and speaking with police. She adds, her cousin is not the type to run away.

Police say MD may be in the company of a local male described as being approximately 45-60 years-old, 5'10, with an average build, and bareback wearing gray shorts.

Police ask anyone with information on his whereabouts to call the Police Department’s non-emergency line at (808) 935-3311.

Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call the island-wide Crime Stoppers number at 961-8300.

Since this article I haven't seen any mention of mum being with them. I wonder if it was misinformation.

I wish we knew how the crime was reported. Did someone find the boyfriend and untie him? Did he call the police, or did someone else call? Did the "kidnapper" take the boyfriend's phone? If the boyfriend had been drugged, he should have received medical attention. I hope they got a blood draw.

Did he run away? Drive away? Is there a BOLO for this creature before he abducts someone else? Why hasn't LE said anything about him or warned people in the area???

This article says MD was able to give police a license plate #. I guess that means the suspect drove away if the car is no longer there. I can't find any info in the Hilo news that they are looking for a suspect and/or his car or warning people. Very strange. Maybe some kind of domestic situation?

Hawaii Island Police are requesting the public's assistance in locating Duncan Kealoha Mahi, M-52.

Wanted for outstanding warrants and Kidnapping investigation.

Mahi last seen in Downtown Hilo around 1130 a.m. today, Saturday, 9/17/22, operating a white Honda CRV, License #ZAE959.

He is described as 5'11", 215 pounds, brown eyes/brown hair, tattoos on both arms. If Mahi and/or vehicle is observed, call 911.

MD located in good health in Hilo - West Hawaii Today

While the man went to get her food, MD remained in the car. As soon as the suspect entered the establishment, she fled the vehicle, the mother said. A Good Samaritan then recognized the girl and took her from the area and notified police.
