Circumstances of Disappearance:
Adam was last seen in South Kona, Hawaii on June 13, 1998. She drove away from her residence at Miloli'i Beach Lots in her 1997 Toyota Celica and has never been heard from again.

Her husband reported that before she left, she said that she "needed her space" and he assumed she'd traveled to their second home in the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates subdivision of Ka'u. He reported her missing to police on June 17. He stated that two days after he last saw Adam, he found her car parked at their second home.

Adam worked as a clerk at Kona Circuit Court at the time of her disappearance. A suspicious fire destroyed her Miloli'i Beach Lots home in October 1998, four months after her disappearance, but it's unclear whether the fire is related to her case. Her husband has since left Hawaii. Adam is believed to have been a homicide victim and her case remains unsolved.

Hello everybody,

I am seeking any advice or assistance with a cold case involving my aunt that happened in Hawaii in 1998. There are suspicious circumstances <modsnip: No 'official' POI and information redacted pending member verification>. I was young when it happened and a lot of my family has since passed, so I have little to go off of because it was something they just didn't talk about after a while. It was a missing person at first, then changed to a murder investigation. Any help would be appreciated because this event altered mine and my family's entire lives in a horribly negative way.

Was the husband investigated? Did he have an alibi?
I read here that he reported Michele´s disappearance

There are many legal documents/filings when searching the net (both in Hawaii New Hampshire). I'm not going to post them here but if you need help finding the links I will do so, just let me know.

I don't have any specific help I can provide, but I will say that what I have been told by many who have missing loved ones and those in the missing/unidentified community of searchers (including LE) is to ensure you and your family stay on it. I used to live in Hawaii about 20 years ago and did research then on the missing and unidentified - a person I spoke with multiple times in LE told me to "be patient but persisent". Just keep hammering away. Keep her name in the mind of the current LE on her case, in the media (I haven't seen a recent article) in Hawaii and maybe even reach out to someone in NH, ensure DNA is on file in Namus, etc.

I wish you the best. I didn't know your auntie but I have thought of her over the years, and especially during the time I lived in Hawaii and was working to document cases. Peace.

Welcome laurenback. Hopefully our members will be able to help get some answers for you as you all delve into discussing what happened in Michele's case.

As you are a family member, I am including the link that explains our Verification process for family members and other case insiders. The link explains why Websleuths has this process in place, and instruction on how to apply. The process is quicky and easy, completely voluntary and confidential, and it allows verified members to provide information they have without having to provide links to what they state as fact.

I know that he had an assault type case against him in about 2001 from Hawaiina locals. My mom told me that Richard had poured a slab of concrete on his proerty right after Michele's disappearance and I am unsure if that was ever investigated.
I saw a post about her on reddit and somebody was claiming to be her niece as well (she is Richard's sister's granddaughter). I talk to her and she said her dad thinks he did it but the rest of her family is claiming "a cult (Hawaiian natives) ran her off the road a day prior to her going missing, and lit her house on fire. My father is the one who said Richard had something to do with Michele’s disappearance but after talking to my grandmother and mother they both said my dad is full of it and that what he said isn’t true".
Richard burned their house down in order to collect the insurance money but that was in Michele's name so he could not collect. They could also never prove that it was him. Everything leads to him. She had broken her leg at one point and they both said the dogs knocked her down but she later told family that he was very abusive and it was him among other injuries.
My dad felt so much guilt after her disappearance that he started drinking and died from complications due to that in 2004. My grandparents lost both of their children and this is all because of Richard who has been allowed to be free while our whole family suffered greatly. I know justice is a long shot but I could not express the relief and pride I would feel to do this for my family's peace.

<<In January 1999, detectives reclassified Michelle's disappearance from a missing person to a murder case. They also conducted a two-day search for her remains in both Milolii and Hawaiian Ocean View Estates. The search failed to turn up any evidence relating to her disappearance, however.>>

@laurenback I feel terrible for your family not knowing where Michele is. I can't even imagine how this has affected you all. One way I think you could help in addition to getting verified, is telling us what you know about Michele. Did she have any piercings or tattoos, birthmarks, scars, formerly broken bones, dental implants? Has anyone in your family submitted DNA to investigators? Do you have additional photos of Michele? stuff like that.

I am unsure on how to get verified because our maiden names are the same but I don't know how to prove that. This happened when I was 8 so even if I have pictures, it won't look like me. I know that she broke her leg (lower leg I think?) And we think this was from abuse from her husband. He also poured a concrete slab on their property shortly after her death and I don't know if that was ever investigated.

Hey everyone,

@laurenback has been verified as a family member and is free to provide inside information without having to provide links to what they state as fact about their knowledge of this case.

Thank you to laurenback and all others who are here to discuss Michele's case and help in trying to figure out what has happened.
