Army charges Hawaii soldier with murder in case of missing spouse and unborn child

Pfc. Dewayne Arthur Johnson II was charged by the Army with killing his still-missing wife, Mischa, and her unborn child.

The case is being handled by the Office of Special Trial Counsel which has a relatively new role in the Pentagon’s justice system to prosecute criminal cases involving murder, sexual assault and domestic abuse outside the chain of command.

Hawaii advocates warn pregnancy leading cause of homicide

Domestic violence experts are warning that homicide is the leading cause of death for pregnant women. They’re sounding the alarm after a Schofield soldier was charged for the murder of his pregnant wife.

“Homicide is the leading leading cause of death among pregnant women in the United States. 50% to 75% of women abused during pregnancy will continue to be abused after they give birth as well,” said Monique Ibarra, Domestic Violence Action Center, CEO.

In 2022, Harvard researchers found that pregnant women are more likely to be murdered during pregnancy or soon after childbirth than die from the three leading causes maternal mortality, high blood pressure, hemorrhage or sepsis.

Has anyone read anything about the CSAM charges? Everything I can find just kind of says they exist, with absolutely no details, like it’s not a big deal. I’d expect the army to not release much, but it’s weird IMO that the media doesn’t seem to be asking about charges that have no obvious connection to Mischa.

I’m wondering if the material that was found and distributed might have been of Mischa when she was a minor. With EXIF data, it would be pretty clear to investigators what age she was in a photo. It’s not clear to me exactly how old she was when they met, but I don’t think it’s a big stretch to imagine her sending nude photos of herself at 17, or him keeping photos of her from before they met. I’m not sure if it’s as common as it used to be for kids in their late teens to take nude photos of themselves?

Honestly, most of this case has unclear details. Further, most of the reporters these days miss the mark on asking intelligent questions.

I think your thought on photos of Mischa as a minor is a good one, could be spot on. Sexting is alive and well, more prevalent than ever.

This article doesn't say whether they found the body of the pregnant Army Spouse, Mischa Johnson, however, According to an Army Times article, Mischa Johnson’s body has still not been found and the case remains an active investigation. The accused Pfc. Dewayne Arthur Johnson has been charged with Article 118 (murder), Article 119a (intentional killing of an unborn child), Article 131b (Obstruction of Justice) and Article 134 (A general article that covers a lot of things the military feels violates good order and discipline).

Pfc. Dewayne Johnson II waived his right to a preliminary hearing and remains in pretrial confinement, according to the U.S. Army.

Pfc. Johnson waived his right to a preliminary hearing under Article 32 of Uniform Code of Military Justice, the Army said. He remains in pretrial confinement.

The case will now be assigned to military judge who will schedule dates for an arraignment, pretrial hearings and the trial itself.
