In Monday’s hearing, PFC Johnson said that on July 12, Mischa accused him of cheating and threatened to keep him out of their baby’s life.

He added that the argument made him “overwhelmed with rage.” He then grabbed a machete he kept next to his bed and struck Mischa in the left temple.

... He has not said what happened to Mischa’s body.

He continued by saying that he was overwhelmed. He was trying to calm her down and didn’t intend to scare her.

“I couldn’t picture my life without my child. I regret, I shouldn’t have done it,” he said.

Dewayne confirmed that Mischa was dead on the floor. She was not breathing and he couldn’t feel a pulse on her.

this article seems to have been updated:

After Dewayne killed Mischa, he attempted to dismember her with the machete but was unsuccessful. He resorted to using a chainsaw to cut off her limbs. This made it an easier method of disposing of her body by throwing away her body parts in separate garbage bags.

Dewayne discarded the garbage bags with Mischa’s remains at the dumpster in his unit. … He also noted that this particular dumpster goes straight to the incinerator. ”

I’m sick reading this. The judge is going to greatly reduce Johnson’s sentence based on his claim he didn’t mean to kill her, he was trying to calm her down with a machete?! He couldn’t picture life without his child in it but he dismembered his pregnant wife and sent both to the incinerator?

Mischa deserves more than him serving 10 to 20 years in prison. She was 19 years old FGS! He stole her whole life, along with Armani. He let her family & friends search for weeks all along knowing she couldn’t be found & her family can’t lay her remains to rest. He doesn’t deserve an hour off a life sentence, let alone having it cut in half!!

I don’t believe a word he said about the fight with Mischa. We’ll never know the truth, but that wasn’t it.

Just as I thought, he discarded Mischa and the baby in a way they cannot be found and laid to rest. No family should have to face such a horrific reality.

He knew where that dumpster went and they would never be recovered. Twenty years is certainly not long enough!!! I’m fuming!!!! 😡

Schofield soldier DeWayne Johnson II sat emotionless as he explained how he accidentally killed his then pregnant wife Mischa Johnson, hitting her on the head with a machete in a fit of rage.

He also confessed to dismembering her with a chainsaw to cover up the crime.

“We’re never gonna be able to bury her or Armani, my mom can’t bury her daughter,” Tapiz said.

To me this just feels like someone wanted to make this case go away because it was perhaps a stain on the reputation of the unit or base or whatever. Doesn’t feel like justice served. MOO

On Thursday, a military judge sentenced a Schofield soldier to the maximum of 23 years in prison after he confessed to killing his pregnant wife.

The prosecution also called on an Army CID agent who monitored Johnson’s behavior online after the murder.

According to Special Agent Chelsea Banks, Johnson messaged 18 different women on a dating app called BLK, and images found on Johnson’s phone showed him with another woman, kissing and performing sexual acts.

For Marianna Tapiz, the death of her sister feels like a “void in her heart that will never be filled again.”

Tapiz added that Mischa Johnson was supposed to be her maid of honor.

Frances Tapiz-Andrian, Mischa Johnson’s mother, became overwhelmed with emotion on the witness stand, calling her grief “hell” and describing her loss as an “unbearable grief.”

The remains of Mischa and her unborn child have never been found and are presumed to have been transported to the island’s trash incinerator.

Pfc. Johnson, a cavalry scout assigned to the 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, will serve his prison sentence at the United States Disciplinary Barracks, Fort Leavenworth, Kan.

On June 5, following his guilty plea, Johnson was sentenced to 23 years in prison.

“Specifically, he pleaded guilty to the lesser included offense of voluntary manslaughter, obstruction of justice, and providing false official statements,” McCaskill wrote. “The charges of possession of child 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 and the production and distribution of child 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 were dismissed by the government per the terms of his plea agreement.”

Doesn’t seem harsh enough to me. He’ll be in his early forties when he’s let out. Speaking of that, will he have to serve the entire twenty three years? How do federal sentencing rules work?

Disgusting.

TWENTY THREE YEARS FOR ....

What is essentially intentional murder by someone invoiced in casm who murdered their own child and wife... with a machete. And then using a chainsaw to cut up body pieces.

Way to go, US Military. Making a mockery of the justice system. Any sane civilian in Hawaii should steer clear of those maniacs.

That sentence isn’t even close enough to what it should be.

No charge for the unborn child?

He got a sweet deal and I can’t imagine why.

I think federal is 85% unless sentenced to life. I can't seem to find a link that won't get me in trouble though, so JMO.

He has not said what happened to Mischa’s body.
During the trial, he stated that a friend of his said this specific dumpster goes to the incinerator and that's where he placed the garbage bags with the dismembered body parts.

Details of Disappearance

Mischa was last seen in Schofield Barracks on the island of Oahu in Hawaii on July 12, 2024. She lived there with her husband, Army Private First Class Dewayne Dewayne Arthur "DJ" Johnson II. A photo of Dewayne is posted with this case summary. Mischa spoke to her mother on the phone that day and she was supposed to meet her sister for dinner, but she never showed up.

Her family continued to receive texts from Mischa's phone until August 1, but they said the texts were not like her writing in either style or punctuation. She was reported missing on August 1; Dewayne said he last saw her the previous evening at home. She left her keys, wallet, phone and Apple watch at home. Mischa's family said the Johnsons had seemed deeply in love and that Dewayne participated in the search for his wife.

On August 27, Dewayne was chargd with providing false official statements and obstruction of justice in Mischa's case, and also faced unrelated charges of production and distribution of child 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬. In November, he was additionally charged with Mischa's murder, with intentionally killing her unborn child, and with possession of child 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬.

Authorities stated he admitted to having killed Mischa with a machete after an argument, and they found blood, DNA and other forensic evidence to support his statements. He also admitted to having impersonated Mischa in texts to her family after her death.

In June 2025, almost a year after Mischa disappeared, Dewayne pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, obstruction of justice, and providing false official statements in Mischa's case. The child 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 charges were dismissed as part of the plea deal. He was sentenced to 23 years in prison.

Mischa's remains have never been found. Authorities believe they were transported to the island's trash incinerator.

Manslaughter? For slaughtering and dismembering his wife and unborn child with a machete and putting them in a dumpster?!
Is this a reflection of how the Army views the value of a woman and unborn innocent child's life?
Shame on you Army. Your motto is "This We'll Defend". Well you failed.

Amateur opinion and speculation
