HI HI - Nancy Anderson, 19, Waikiki, stabbed to death, 7 January 1972 *case re-opened*

I’m waiting for this piece of s**t to be transported into Hawaii jurisdiction. However, the most confounding aspect in my mind is HOW a degenerate like Chirila ever could have crossed paths with Nancy? She was only 19, worked at McDonald’s and had recently moved to Hawaii. How he could even be connected to her is mind boggling. It’s not clear if Chirila was one of the salesmen who returned to the apartment or not. Plus, if he was one of the two, he must have seen her roommate return to the apartment…and he still went back to attack Nancy? Doesn’t make sense.
Nancy was stabbed 63 times. Tudor Chirila was married in Los Angeles, 22 Mar 1969, at age 23 and was divorced 27 Oct 1988 in Carson City, Nev. His ex died in 2015. (Source: Ancestry.com). He was 25-26 when he allegedly murdered Nancy. It's pretty obvious from the maps and addresses that Chirila lived close enough to Nancy to have crossed paths with her. He lived 2.5 miles from her address, 16 minutes by car.

Map shows:

1) Nancy's address, Apt 704, 2222 Aloha Dr, Waikiki, Honolulu, HI,
2) McDonald's, where Nancy worked, 1778 Ala Moana Blvd, Waikiki, Honolulu, HI,
3) Chirila's residence, 1050 Kinau St., Waikiki, Honolulu,
4) and the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, where Tudor Chirila worked as a graduate assistant.

All in close proximity to each other.

According to Polk's Directory of City and County of Honolulu, 1971, on Ancestry, Tudor Chirila lived with his wife at 1050 Kinau St., Waikiki, Honolulu and was employed as an assistant at University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa

"In October 1971, Anderson moved to a seventh-floor apartment in Waikiki, Honolulu, which is near the university."

Tudor Chirila graduated in 1970 from University of Hawaii which is located at 874 Dillingham Blvd in Honolulu, about 5 miles from Nancy's residence.

Charges were dropped in 1995 for kidnap and intent to rape his girlfriend, no mean feat for someone working for the mob and running a brothel.

  • ''HONOLULU (island News) -- The suspect in a decades-old Waikiki cold case murder has died in custody, according to a spokesperson with the Hawaii Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
Tudor Chirila Jr. was pronounced dead at a local hospital on Dec. 25, 2023, DOC confirmed. An official cause of death will be released pending autopsy.
Chirila was accused of killing 19-year-old Nancy Anderson in 1972 in her Waikiki apartment. The case was originally scheduled to go to a jury trial in February 2023 but was repeatedly pushed back.''

BAY CITY, Mich. (WJRT) - She grew up in Bay City, was murdered in Hawaii more than 50 years ago and now her accused killer died in jail.

Last September, a Nevada man was arrested for the death of Nancy Anderson, who was stabbed to death in 1972. That man died in a Hawaii jail on Christmas Day.

The family was told 77-year-old Tudor Chirila died in jail due to cardiac arrest and foul play was not suspected.

Nancy's brother Jack said the family feels a little robbed that they will not see the man convicted. But all the family wanted was to know who took their loved one's life.

"She was an amazing person, she had a very outgoing, very trusting, maybe to a fault, a trusting personality," Jack Anderson said about his sister...

Bumping this thread up.

IMO. fwiw, this case is closed.

Cold Case Cracked: Former Nevada deputy attorney general arrested for Hawaii murder

The following month, in March 2022, HPD obtained a DNA sample from Chirila's son, John Chirila of Newport Beach, California. His DNA sample was used for investigation, which revealed him as the biological son of the DNA sample found on scene. John also confirmed that his parents lived in Hawaii before he was born.

HPD confirmed on September 12 that Chirila's DNA matched with the DNA found on a towel near Nancy's body, leading to his arrest the next day.

"At the exact moment Nancy Anderson was murdered in 1972, her glass covered portrait photo (which she hung up), fell off the wall at her family’s home 3000 miles away and shattered on the ground at my feet. This story is about family, faith, determination, and a murder mystery! It is based on true events that inspired a family of 9 siblings to embark on a 50-year quest to resolve their life-long brittle riddle… (the unsolved brutal murder of their sister Nancy). It’s also the story of how a world-renowned DNA expert (CeCe Moore) never gave up in finding Nancy’s killer by developing a new groundbreaking investigative genetic genealogy method used for the first time to solve a cold case murder".

The "alleged" killer was some how never convicted of Nancy's brutal murder. He murdered her when he was in his 20's, but not arrested until he was in his 70's.

There were some 50 intervening years. How many others did he victimize?

Hi Richard, based on the DNA evidence (via DNA databases) it looks like he was not involved in any other murders as far as the investigators can tell... If he did commit other murders, there is no DNA or other evidence from other known crimes to point at him or use against him... He did however, show a history of violence towards other women throughout his life (so it is possible). -Jack Anderson (Brother of Nancy Anderson).
