Found Deceased HI - Smriti Saxena, 41, asthma attack, husband left to get inhaler, Big Island, 18 Feb 2020 *arrest*

Geez, this is really sad. :(

ETA - they were married 17 years, and this trip was for their 13 year old’s birthday? The timing seems odd. I read he said she was “uncomfortable” on the beach and had thought it got worse while he was gone. Just not the outcome I was hoping for.

Wow!!

Wonder what prompted them to arrest on suspicion of murder? The condition of her body?

I did not expect this

Also where were the kids at this time? 13 and 8 old enough to be at hotel room alone I guess? Gosh I hope they didn’t witness anything :(

Depends on the kid but yeah, we let ours stay in the hotel room by themselves at these ages. This is so scary to me - like that her husband would kill her on a tropical vacation with the kids. Jeez.

And husband/father of the year goes to :mad:

I actually had hope that because they were there for the child’s birthday he wouldn’t do that to his kid. Seems like he might have been hoping that’s what people would think... This is what I get for having faith in humanity.

Now how do I hug these children :((

This sure moved fast.

Hinkey meters seem to be spot on with this one. Very sad. I'm racking my brain what his motive for murdering her would possibly be. Seems he had one. JMO

I had a hunch this would be the outcome. It just didn't make sense for him to walk the long walk back in the dark to get her inhaler when there would be so much help around the area they were on the beach.

That was a really weak story on the part of her husband.
Every female asthmatic I know keeps her rescue inhaler IN her purse.

Exactly. Two great RN's think alike!

She did have her purse with her too, as it was found on the beach when he "searched" for her. I wonder if he took her inhaler out of her purse without her knowing. JMO

"Sonam Saxena said he headed back to the hotel room, in the dark of night, hoping that she’d tried to make her way there.

“I was disturbed because why would she leave her purse and her phone on the beach and head back to the room. It just seemed really odd,” he said. “So I rushed back to the room. I checked the room and I saw that she wasn’t in the room."

Why did he walk back to the hotel to see if she was there? Couldn’t he have called his kids to check? Wouldn’t he have passed her? He didn’t think this thru IMO And let’s face it, asthma or not, a woman isn’t going to leave her purse behind. IMO

I used to be asthmatic and I wonder if she died of an attack. If she's not asthmatic enough that she doesn't carry her inhaler EVERYWHERE, maybe she was completely unprepared for a sudden unexpected attack? I've been NOT asthmatic for 3 years and I STILL carry an inhaler everywhere I go. Still. Hinky meter redlining.

How do they arrest someone when they've not id'ed the body? Guessing this is just a public statement that she has not yet been identified?

Google project manager facing murder charge after wife disappears in Hawaii, body found

Hawaii police on Wednesday arrested a Google project manager on suspicion of second-degree murder following the disappearance of his wife a day earlier.

Sonam Saxena, 43, of Bellevue, Wash., was taken into police custody following the discovery of a body near Aneahoomalu Bay, police said in a statement.

Saxena's wife, Smriti, a 41-year-old Indian woman, was last seen at the Lava Lava Beach Club in Waikoloa on Feb. 18 around 10:30 p.m. She was wearing a black dress with a multicolored floral design and a black jacket, authorities said.

Though police have not confirmed the identity of the body found in the bay, they said the location was "in the general areas where Smriti Saxena was reported as a missing person and last seen late Tuesday evening."

Lava Lava closes at 9pm. There isn't much moonlight and it's winter here so it's pretty chilly at 10:30 pm. I can't imagine why they were out walking that far in the dark while their children were in the hotel room. The Marriott is at the south end of A Bay while other condos and a hotel are at the north end. There wouldn't be any closer area to get help other than the Marriott.

I know he works for google, but how many people would send out a tweet to the governor, LE and local media when their loved one is missing and a body is found? Seems odd to me.

I feel so sorry for their children. What an awful situation so far from home. With such a quick arrest, I wonder if he broke down and confessed. He's not a career criminal and maybe something got out of hand etc and she died.

I would expect authorities to wait for autopsy results before arresting him if the asthma was indeed true...they clearly have info that points to him.
