This is from WSPA.com And the victims are Jason Van Dyke (roommate of suspect) and Tracey McKinney. It only says that LE “responded to a call” and there was a burn pile in the back yard still active and that’s where the victims were. Suspect is 34 year old Matthew Cooley who the sheriff reports has a criminal history. No reports of motive, how, where, or when this happened.
I know this area well as it’s not far from my home and I worked there in music quite a bit some years back. Forest City is where this home is.
I’m unable to link but the site above I hope will bring up the station. It’s been reported on foxcarolina.com also.
The sheriff hasn’t committed to Cooley having murdered Tracy McKinney yet saying it’s still being investigated but adds that they aren’t looking for other suspects.

I’m still curious about what the call was and if a neighbor seen something or? Sheriff Chris Francis says they are still doing interviews and autopsies are tomorrow.

I bet this will be an attempt at an Elmer Wayne Henley style defense where he claims he never did anything to the girl and only killed Van Dyke in self defense. For some reason people think that will work even when there is overwhelming circumstantial evidence to the contrary (like the body being dismembered and in a burn pile)
