Wes Craven, who directed the unforgettable 'Nightmare on Elm Street' horror movie, has died in Los Angeles aged 76. He had been suffering from brain cancer.

Craven was also responsible for the hugely successful 'Scream' horror movies of the 1990s and the older, disturbing 'The Last House on the Left'.

Tributes have been paid across the industry, including from Scream and Friends star Courtney Cox:

"Today the world lost a great man, my friend and mentor, Wes Craven. My heart goes out to his family," actress Courtney Cox, who starred in Craven's 1996 Scream and appeared in the franchise's three subsequent films, posted on Twitter.
