from the Wesh article:

Justice Administrative Commission figures reveal Anthony's defense has billed $30,883 in investigative fees to taxpayers.

So far, the JAC has reimbursed the Anthony defense team $49,300 and another $31,281 in bills is still pending.

Other state-paid fees include:
•$7,206 for deposition transcripts
•$8,879 for crime scene processing by an expert witness
•$9,299 in subpoena services
•$9,866 in out-of-state travel expenses for those working for the defense
•$2,045 for in-state travel expenses for a due process provider

The state-paid costs are above and beyond the $275,000 defense fund Anthony spent on her own before being declared indigent and eligible for taxpayer reimbursement.

What the :silenced:???

340 witnesses?? Come on?

Do these witnesses even have to talk to this man?? Can't they just slam the door in his face and refuse to talk to him? I know if this man ever knocked at my door I would surely tell him what he could do with himself!

This trial is NOT going to be delayed!!

Can they bill the state for hours that the investigator's butt investigated the comfort of the seats in the courtroom?

Oh wait....I know....he is there to investigate the Judge's likelihood of giving him more funds to investigate the quality of the air inside KC and JB's heads

You never know, he might find chloroform in Casey's. :floorlaugh:

Defense needs to investigate 340 state witnesses? This is written to read 340 additional witnesses. In the words of HHJBP, "You want what?"

The State only has 348 witnesses listed!!
More hoohah!! Pass the frozen piffle in a heavily salt-rimmed glass.

Didn't read. Must go read. BBL

I would like to know if this investigator has any other clients or is making a living off of investigating things for this case.

Well, he didn't for 4 days.

Am I crazy or isn't this an awful lot of money? In all seriousness, shouldn't the first installment of 200 k have paid for Baez's whole job here?

Given the fact that JB claims to have spent $165,000 on experts and investigations. I doubt if Mort charged that much for what little he did. Also the experts, all but one, claim to have not been paid. So where did that money go. The State has paid $17,000 for experts alone since last year and about $50,000 on investigations. With no results. I see some new laws coming down the pike with the taxpayers calling their representatives. If there is a good reason to investigate I can see it allowed. I just do not see much of anything reflected on those bills.

Some of the people contacted claimed they told them over the phone they did not have any information and the PI shows up at their house, their work, etc. That is not gathering useful information, it's wasting taxpayer's money. jmo

I guess JB has to cover his general expenses somehow, what better way than to repeatedly tap into the JAC investigative hours bucket? After all, it is bottomless but only allows small increments. Somehow I don't think Florida Taxpayers agree.

Do you think that JB is getting Kickbacks????

I don't know but I am positive that he is doing some creative accounting and moving funds around as needed ... not that he does any accounting of hours, expenses, etc anyway.

I'd love an accounting of that $275,000 and where that really went -- that is a lot of money when the bulk of the work has been only done recently and has only racked up ~$80,000 ... 30% of what was previously spent.

I consider there to be a very fine line between "investigating" and "stalking".

IMO investigating is defined by exerting energy toward a specific goal ("specific" meaning following a predetermined and outlined plan), conducting research, and actively attempting to make direct contact with "witnesses".

The word "witness" is key, IMO, as HHJP has clearly prohibited any "fishing expeditions". What a PI wants to call a "witness", the court may call an "average citizen".

The defense has demonstrated a pattern of harassment, and for lack of a better term "stalking" a number of people. IMO the trial is so close that there is really little justification for "investigative services" that fall OUTSIDE of mitigation.

IIRC....HHJP was rather adamant about any further investigative hours requiring VERY specific justification. He has recently ruled against the defense adding Kathi Belich as a witness, against admitting Kronk's prior bad acts. IMO when HHJP "hears" this motion he will require far more "justification and explanation" than he has before.

You are right! The accounting makes totally no sense! I wonder how it works to report someone to the IRS in the States. (I am Canadian...so I wouldn't know how that works there...WTF...I wouldn't know how it works here....probably would have to write a letter here...you know Canadians :-) )

What I would love to see is the mileage for his vehicle for 2010 and 2011.

The whole system is based on the law firm giving an accuate accounting of the invoices they've sent out for the work the third parties have completed. It's based on honesty and integrity of the parties involved, and when the JAC isssues funds to pay for those invoices, they of course, expect the funds to go to the right people in the correct amount. But, there are no checks and balances here. It's based on honesty and integrity. I think you get the idea.

Another $12,000 for their PI Lyons. Pffft. I wonder what new evidence the state gave the defense? Could be juicy. Can't wait for the doc dump Friday!

Another 300 hours.......there is right at 2 months to jury selection, 8 weeks at 40 hours per week would put them over by 20 hours.

Maybe they should bundle up the evidence that they wanted checked out and read, and send it over to the county jail and let Miss Anthony "earn" her wants and needs.
She's got nothing but time on her hands anyway, and, we've seen how she loves to scribble and write. Now that she doesn't have a pen pal anymore, at least that we know of.

I really have a strong feeling that when this wraps up, that JAC is going to be sending some young head strong attorney's that are out to make a name for themselves, knocking on Mr. Baez's door.
I wonder if he'll pack up his big ole family crest and head for the hills.....

Yeah, honesty and intergrity, which we all know and have seen is high on dream team's priority list.
A real "Must Do"......:floorlaugh:

I suggest if Baez wants to continue on this fishing trippin' that he is requesting funds for, that he ask to borrow George's super-duper Kid Finder Bass Boat.
He'd have about as much luck with that as he will investigating anything else, let alone 340 witness's!!!!

These people are just on crack ~ They have to be ~
