My money is on that house was recently rented and if memory serves me, there is a connection out of state with this property. It was furnished quickly and gave a decent place for Deb, Jer, and the boys to stay.
Never once did I buy that act about Phil renting it on his own and completely furnishing it. The kid had just turned 20...at the time. Dollars to donuts, he lived with Jeremy for a time. Remember,Jeremy wasn't working much. The job he had was a recent one. Phil most likely helped out with finances.
