Part of PCH is closed, but I don't think it's that far up into SB county. Last I heard the 101 is clear. If he takes PCH (or Rt. 1), he should be able to take 101 to the 405 (which is also clear. Now, the 5 in SD is a different story. There is fire on both sides of the 5.

OKay this is what he is doing. he is leaving now and will hopefully make it to Orange County.

They are saying it may burn all the way to the coast in San Diego which is absoultely unheard of.
My sister said USD and UCSD and SDSU are all closed.

I am praying that all are safe with these fires, especially all the firemen, etc. I just saw coverage on tv. I feel so bad for those people that have lost their homes to this fire. I can't believe this.

winds are too strong in the OC to use air strikes. They are promised that they are #2 in line once the conditions permit.

When the winds die down, can't they bring in planes from out of state, and don't they scoop big buckets of water out of the ocean? Are you Californians hearing anything about that?

I don't know, but they are using QualComm stadium as an evac center. This is crazy!

Anyone know anything about La Mesa??

This is like a replay of the Cedar fire, which was 4 yrs ago this past weekend.

In fact I think this one is even worse.

Hubby & I both are home from work today because both of our work areas are evacuated. Our neighborhood is OK except the smell of smoke.

When the winds die down, can't they bring in planes from out of state, and don't they scoop big buckets of water out of the ocean? Are you Californians hearing anything about that?

They might be able to do some of that later. Once the winds die down the fires will be more controllable. What is happening is that the winds are whipping the fires into a frenzy, and also bringing embers to neighborhoods that were not on fire, catching them on fire too.

There are huge DC10's or (something like that) they can use when the winds die down.

All of my friends and friends of friends who had to evacuate are staying with friends, not at shelters. Hopefully people staying with friends and family will relieve some of the strain on the shelters.

The cedar fire is the one that i drove down and stayed with 3 of my boys. that was the worst i have ever seen up close and personal. Birdie this is incredible.

they are using some air strikes right now but the fire is creating it's own weather and it is really difficult.
They are just able to hit some of the "hotspots"

I was really scared during the Cedar fire, we lived on the side of a canyon during that time, and the fire was a lot closer. For some reason I don't feel as frightened during this fire, I know I SHOULD be frightened but I think I am really just kind of too overwhelmed to feel very frightened.

We are spending the day in front of the TV and adding items to a suitcase we are packing to take with us in case we have to leave. We *should* be safe but I am gathering stuff "just in case" so I don't have to do it at the last minute.

I grew up in the San Fernando Valley and am familiar with the surrounding areas. But I know nothing really of the San Diego area. I just found out about the 250K being evacuated. I have a stepdaughter and her marine husband that live in Oceanside. Do I need to be worried about them?

Oceanside is OK for now.

All San Diego County schools will be closed tomorrow due to poor air quality. This ain't going away soon, folks.

No, not all SD County schools.................San Deigo County is huge, and not all areas are affected by the smoke or fires.
