According to the news, ALL schools in San Diego County will be closed tomorrow.

We have things packed and ready to go. I hope we don't get the reverse 911 call to get out. We are 4 miles north of Escondido. It is hard to sleep when you smell smoke. I have never seen the wind like this in the 26 years that I have lived here.

Col. Jim Seaton, commandant of the Marine Corps base at Camp Pendleton, said that 20,000 to 23,000 vehicles have evacuated under Marine escort through the base from the Rice Canyon (Fallbrook) Fires to I-5.

(((LatteDa))) , that sounds so sad and scary. All of the posters in these areas you are all in my thoughts and I hope you all stay safe.

This is like a living nightmare that just keeps getting worse and worse.

Be careful LD. I have a friend that lives in Escondido and she is also packed and ready to go.

Goodnight, folks. Here's hoping we're all here tomorrow, safe and sound. I'm praying for a miracle.

I was just watching the fires again on television and it is unreal as to how many there are. Are they all from embers blowing?! I just cannot fathom how that many fires are started in so many locations without it being arson. Are they addressing this at all on the news there?

It's all Santa Ana, and dry brush. Put those together, and a little spark that normally would just go out - whether from a cigarette, downed power line, etc. - turns into a huge forest fire. That's why so many all at once. It's not that there are a bunch of mysterious fire causes, it's that normal little sparks are becoming huge fires due to conditions.

I have a friend who lives in Rancho Palos Verdes. Does anyone know if this area is near the fires?

I live by the water on the Palos Verdes Peninsula-north, facing the bay. We are directly across the bay from Malibu. We can see the fire from the cliffs, and this morning there was ash all over the cars. By this afternoon, there was an orangy haze, as the sun was trying to shine through, but because of the smoke, could not. It is eerie. I had a migraine and sore throat all day, and I am worried about my sons asythma.

It's now 655 homes and 150 businesses destroyed and 500,000 people evacuated--wow--It is the largest evacuation in the country since Hurricanes Rita and Katrina back in 2005

Holy cow, Buzz, are you ok ?, my knowledge of CA geography is slowly becoming enlightened a bit.

LoveMama my thoughts are with you and all of our WS friends in CA, incredible.

I just saw a snippet on Van Sustern station, had a police chief on who stated that they know for certain that 3 of the fires were arson caused.

What an incredible opportunity for a terrorist type activity. I would in my state of ignorance think it is that group of people that hate development, BUT BUT what IF IF it is not they but others who wish America harm?

The same coverage said that there are a total of 12 'different fires happening' now. I can see firebrands causing some but NOT that many in such diverse locations, huh ????

Same coverage said that dropping water is futile because the intense heat evaporates the water before it gets to the fire.

So many of Colorado wild fires include pine trees, which burn with an incredible heat and send firebrands on a wild journey from the heat generated air lifts and travel paths. I am having a mental problem understanding this happening with lower growing brush type growth, someone help me out with this.

Your growth seems more appropriate for starting arson fires ALONG WITH THE Santa Ana winds that seem so predictable and are forecast for all bent on bad deeds can understand and plan their potential damage to specific areas.

My prayers are with all of you!!!!

Schwartzenegger making a lot of speeches now, saying the California gov't is doing everything they can--Maria Shriver, Schwartzenegger's wife was just on CNN--Jeez, she has on more eye make-up than Tammy Faye--Its a shame--I remember seeing her 25 years ago when she was a reporter and she was so beautiful, but today....

200,000 Acres destroyed--The incredibly low humidity, 6%, is fueling the raging fires

Peter, the acres are not destroyed... buildings and belongings yes, but the land and natural environment actually thrive after a fire.

Fire is no different than a hurricane... a naturally occurring force.
Much like we should not build homes on barrier Islands ... Ca should not build homes in dry fire prone places..

My thoughts are still with those in harms way..

This whole thing is just terrible. I hope those fires are contained soon. My heart goes out to those who live in the path of the fires.

One of my daughter in laws lives in Spring Valley.......and big Harris fire coming up from the Mexican border is getting near there. My daughter Annie Called me at 5:00 this morning to tell me call her , they had just announced that Spring Valley has a mandated evacuation!
I couldn't get her on the phone, so phoned her mom here in La Jolla, woke her up..........and she told me that my DIL had been notified at 3:30 this morning and was packed and getting ready to go. AND one of her son's had already been evacuated in another part of San Diego and were staying at a hotel.

The entire San Diego Unified School district will be closed today. Every single school will be shut down.

40,0000 people are without power.

National Guard has been called in. They are assembling at Qualcom stadium. THere are now 10,000 people staying at the Stadium.

One of the newscasters on Channel 9 here in San Diego was evacuated last nite too!

(I''m only half awake myself) but heard that the Del Mar Heights area has been evacuated. This is where "Scott Peterson's" mom and dad lived. Don't know if they still live there.

At 7:00 this morning there is going to be News Conference. I would guess it will be on all major networks.

Let's all pray we get a switch in the weather!

xxxxxxxxo
