I respectfully disagree Pink. I probably should have added a word or two to the fractured and frenzied comment. It would be "secretly" or "privately". People with bipolar often (of course there are vast personal differences) have wonderfully grandiose schemes. On the surface, they can seem so plausible, viable, well-meaning.
During the mania, these folks are often highly charismatic and lure and entice others to willingly go along with the plan. I have no doubt that many great figures in history have been seriously bipolar.
Often times, the public does not see the depressed side of the coin. There seems to be some shame with that mental state and the person will "hole" up. I actually worry that this will occur for Laura at some point while she is in jail. For all the posts I've written about Laura Silsby, I do worry about her personal safety. I wish the woman no harm whatsoever.
ITA that people very often have high regard for the person with "big dreams". It's only long after the "victims" or the "duped" have been separated from the person's grip and control, that they come to their senses and realize that they've been used.
I am, in no way, a mental health professional. However, I do have three adult sons with varying types of bipolar. All had sudden adult onset at the age of 28. One has Rapid Cycling Type 1 with Borderline Personality Disorder, one has Type 2 along with Multiple Sclerosis, and one has Rapid Cycling Mixed State. Each was a normal and happy child who showed no signs until their onset. One has a daughter with the disorder and autism.
Trust me when I tell you that these handsome, brilliant, charming men have owned more successful businesses, had more incredibly wonderful women fall for them, traveled more, and dreamed bigger dreams than most. They can be entrancing and then vicious, hard-working and then un-caring, grandiose and then nit-picky. They are something else. It's an intriguing disorder/difference.
I love them with all my heart but I've learned to protect myself, my heart, and my bank account. The funny thing about them is that they would read this and smile as they are not in the least ashamed of who they are or what they've done. After all, they'd tell you, they've lived quite a life.
